Hello,  When I try to go to Facebook, my computer displays this message: Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT) What should I do?

Emptying the cache and cookies of Google Chrome:

By URL:

chrome://settings/clearBrowserData

or manually:

The three small horizontal bars (at the top right)
Settings
History
Clear browsing data...
Select the period, the content
confirm

Check the boxes "cache" and "cookies"

Try pinging Facebook to check if you have a connection:

Press "Windows + R", type "CMD".

In the window, type "www.facebook.com".

If there are numbers in milliseconds, then it's indeed your internet browser that has a problem.

I also have this problem, it shows ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT...
I've tried everything: restarting the box, uninstalling Chrome or other browsers... checking my firewall, etc...
Nothing works!
I also pinged www.facebook.com and it says "request timed out"...
What can I do???

I found on my side:
First, I (maybe unnecessarily) uninstalled Google Chrome.
The problem was still there. Impossible to connect to anything with Internet Explorer! What a hassle.
While looking in the task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) I made a discovery.
It was McAfee that seemed to be down. A major crash of McAfee. And since this is not the first problem I've had with McAfee on Windows 8, I was really fed up, so I completely uninstalled it! And then... Surprise, no more problems!!!!! I reinstalled Google Chrome, and then I downloaded Avira.

I have the same problem, I did everything that was said and nothing changes... I don't have McAfee so it might be something else that crashed but I can't find what it is.

for the Facebook issue:
Step 1: Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc then open the Hosts as an administrator and delete the Facebook line
For the connection timeout error
do step 1,

Step 2: check the connection options

>>Control Panel\Network and Internet then click on internet options
go to the Connections tab > LAN settings and uncheck

> Automatically detect settings as well as the proxy server

Step 3: configure DNS or IP

From the menu type CMD in the search bar

then enter these commands:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
