For ARES 2.1 or higher, the port numbers vary, for example Port 23385. When you search for a file, it may appear very little, but if you change the port number and ARES works, then when you search for the same file, it may appear a bit more, and so on. To find the right port number, you need to be patient in your search, because in ARES, like in any other file-sharing software, THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE SHARING THEIR FILES. Good luck.
For those who have connection problems with Vista, here is the link to open the TCP and UDP ports http://www1.emule-inside.net/?tm=1&kw=Cloud+Processing&KW1=Emule%20Dedicated%20Servers&KW2=Proxy%20Servers&KW3=Cloud%20Security&searchbox=0&domainname=0&backfill=0 if it doesn't work download the patch.
It's Ares that chooses the port on its own, sometimes it's 7362, and sometimes 4000, etc.
For ARES to work on your PC, I think you need to disable the Windows firewall and any other firewalls (if you have any).
To completely disable the Windows firewall, click on Start / Run and type: services.msc
You double-click on Windows Firewall, then click the "Stop" button, and in Startup type, select "Disabled." Then click OK, close all the windows, and restart the PC.
Ares should work afterwards.
Good luck.
