Hello!
New to graphic design, I am about to generate PDF files using Acrobat Distiller. But for that, I need to install a virtual PostScript printer (PC).
I've been told I need to download it, for example, from the HP site...I can't find it...
HELP!! Has anyone done this before??
Thanks to everyone.

Hello,
For Vista a working PostScript printer:
here's the method for dummies like me:
1-go to: -Start - Control Panel - Printers
2-click on add a printer, choose add a local printer.
3-use an existing port: select FILE. then next.
4-from the proposed printers choose "HP Laserjet 8000 series PS" --> a PostScript printer that works very well .....
5-then modify the name if you want, like "postscript", and do not select as the default printer!!!!
and there you go, if you use Ghostscript and GSview for your PDFs..... it's great!!!
and in GSview if you want super quality images displayed in your PDFs:
go to file convert, then click on "properties" and then PDFSETTINGS --> in value choose "prepress"
there you go, then okay save the file as "myfile.pdf" and there you have it, a PDF with super quality photos or
images!!!
If this solution can help someone who happens to pass by, then all the better!!!
given that the original message dates back to 2007 ....LOL.....LMAO.....

Normally, your virtual printer is installed by the software that creates PDFs, whatever it may be. For example, to convert a Word document to PDF, you will "print" from monfichier.doc to monfichier.pdf.
The virtual printer should be installed if you have installed your software. Check...

Hello,
I am a bit late to the party, given the date of the start of the message, but all this is very interesting for me as I have been looking for THE solution for days and days...
Problem: I have been using Distiller for years (Acrobat, version 5.0) - to generate high-quality PDF files for my printer. After changing my PC and upgrading from Office 2003 to 2007, I am encountering a bunch of issues (crashes, slowness, images not displaying, ...).
My questions:
- Is my version of Distiller too outdated compared to the new hardware?
- Would the issues improve if I reverted to Office 2003?
- The virtual printer you mentioned for XP - the HP 4550 PS - is it configurable like Distiller?
Thanks a lot for responding to me, as this is my working tool...

Hello,
Thank you for the explanation. I followed it on Windows XP, and it seems to be working because I am one step further
I am using the Pagemaker program and there is a function to convert to PDF file, and after following your instructions.
It is asking me to find the Distiller program... apparently .exe, can you tell me where to find it?

Hello,
I have been using Distiller for years (Acrobat version 5.0) to generate high-quality PDF files for my printer. After changing my PC and upgrading from Office 2003 to 2007, I am experiencing a lot of issues (crashes, slowness, images not displaying, etc.).
My questions:
- Is my version of Distiller too outdated compared to the new hardware? Could it be a graphics card issue (NVidia GF 9500GT - 1GB/DVI/VGA/PCI-E)?
- Would the problems be resolved if I reverted to Office 2003? (That would be quite convenient for me, in any case.)
- Since I can't afford to buy a recent version of Distiller, are there any free virtual printers as effective as Distiller (I need to configure it very precisely, manage colors in CMYK, etc.)
Thank you for your help, as this is my work tool and I am really in a bind!
