Numbering of figures out of order

Hello,

I have been having a problem with the captions of my figures for some time now:
At first, everything was fine, but after inserting about ten photos at the end of the document, the figures started to get "mixed up". The first figure was no longer called "Figure 1" but "Figure 2", the second one "Figure 1", and so on...
I still submitted this work, thinking it wasn't a big deal, but now I need to reprint it in exactly the same format, and the numbering has gotten mixed up again!

What should I do to restore the original numbering?

    Hello,

    It's hard to reply without seeing the document. In any case, this is indeed not normal.

    Start by updating the fields: Ctrl + A to select all, then F9.

      I had already done it, I did it again (just in case...), but nothing has changed...

      Oh OK, you hadn't mentioned that some figures have captions...
      Show non-printing characters (Ctrl+8), and check to which paragraphs your figures are anchored. Grab the anchor with the mouse and move it to another paragraph. The figure should renumber according to its place in the document. Possibly do an update with F9.
