Footnotes - Discontinuous numbering

Solved

Hello everyone,
I need to submit a Word document (on Mac) of about forty pages that includes around 150 footnotes. Since I have to make quite a few changes to this text, I have done a lot of copy/pasting with the track changes feature enabled.

However, when copying/pasting the footnotes, I realized that the numbering has become all messed up! Footnotes 36 and 39 are no longer there. And when I try to add new ones, the offset remains. What should I do?

Thank you in advance for your responses!

Configuration: Mac OS X (10.11) / Safari 9.0

How and why to copy and paste footnotes?
It's iconoclastic and it creates chaos! The proof ...

Hello,
Indeed, I may not have expressed myself clearly. It's more about cutting and pasting to place the footnotes in the right position in the text, as they follow specific typographical rules.
Do you have a solution to maintain continuity in numbering?
Thank you!

Without the file, it's completely impossible!
How can you guess what the error is and where it is located?

Copy-pasting for footnotes is just as inadvisable:
you place your cursor where it needs to be and insert your note.

Resolved! The problem was actually with the track changes. Deleting a comment doesn’t make it disappear from the continuity. You actually need to accept the change for the numbering to go back in order.
Have a good evening!
