AU SECOURS HELP HELP  Unable to connect to the internet with a new computer running WINDOWS VISTA HOME Currently, I am connected to my FREE BOX via an ethernet cable.

Hi, I used toftof91's method (thank you) and it works:

I no longer had an internet connection with Vista but I could access my entire internal network.
I executed the following command lines:

1. Open a command prompt in Start/Accessories as administrator (right-click on the shortcut).
2. Type "netsh int ip reset"
3. Restart
4. Relaunch the command prompt exactly the same way
5. Type "netsh winsock reset"
6. Restart

and the problem is solved...

Ethernet driver installed? Honestly, I don't know, I suppose so, because the machine is new and pre-installed.
So I haven't added anything.
All the Windows peripherals are functioning correctly.
I contacted Free and after several online tests, they confirmed to me that the Freebox is communicating well with the internet...

When I run a test by Windows, it indicates "error 805"

With all due respect, I think it's coming from Windows or the computer... What is surprising is that a friend of mine bought the same one (at the same time as me) and he hasn't had any problems (he's on Wanadoo)

Hello, no panic, turn off your PC, disconnect your modem, turn your PC back on, connect your modem, let it do its thing, it will be detected. Open Internet Explorer and see what happens. After that, we can try some things.

I also have the same problem with my laptop and I've managed to isolate the issue a bit more:
- If my laptop is connected via Wi-Fi, everything works perfectly
- If I'm connected with an ethernet cable, it gets stuck, the pages don’t load anymore.

My drivers are correctly installed and my Vista is up to date. Additionally, I was able to perform tests at my workplace and on my desktop (also Vista), and connected via ethernet cable, everything works perfectly.

I found this on the Microsoft Laboratory site:
"Some sites do not "work" or the internet connection does not function even though the whole setup is correct. You can ping www.google.fr for example, but you can't access any web pages? Try this trick:

Under Vista, the TCP/IP layer automatically optimizes itself. In some cases, this feature is incompatible with your hardware and should then be disabled.

Open a command window with administrator rights (right-click -> Run as Administrator) and run this command:

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

If you need to reactivate it, type:

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=enabled

I tried it, but it doesn’t work for me...

I think the problem lies with Vista and its way of managing the Ethernet connection with certain cards, but I don’t know how to resolve this issue... If anyone has any ideas?

I also have this problem, except that from time to time I can access certain sites and it doesn't work every time. I am subscribed to Alice and I have a Triway CT633 modem. I did the ping tests with them and everything works correctly. They also told me to disable IP4 and/or IP6 but that doesn't change anything. Furthermore, I connected my desktop to another provider (Orange) and it works. I don't know what to do anymore. If you have any ideas, let me know.

Windows may disable the network card to save power. Disable the power-saving option in the network card properties (wired network cards only):

1. To open Network Connections, click the Start button, then Control Panel, then Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and finally Manage Network Connections.

2. Right-click on the connection, and then click Properties. If prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, provide the password or confirmation.

3. In the Network Management tab, click Configure.

4. In the Power Management tab, uncheck the box Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, and then click OK.

I have a Packard Bell connected to a Livebox via Wi-Fi. Until a month ago, I was able to connect with this PC. I uninstalled the entire Livebox program. I wanted to reinstall it and it turned out that the software did not recognize Vista.
I was told that I could connect by starting from network detection. The PC finds the network well and I am connected, but I can't access the internet. I checked all my settings and they are correct. I have another PC with XP, and I have no connection problems there.

I have a PC running WINDOWS XP and the INTERNET connection is great. I added a second PC with Vista to my club-internet box and now it can't connect. The funniest thing is that it worked at first, but now there are increasingly frequent intermittent dropouts, and for the past few weeks, nothing at all. I see I'm not the only one; it’s due to Vista, which is worthless. I booted into Linux (Kaella DVD), and the connection is immediate. On my side, I disabled the IPV6 protocol (by unchecking) available where you configure your IP address (v4)   I also executed the command:  netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled   Don’t forget to restart after executing this command.

My only advice: have the PC exchanged with your seller by invoking the legal obligation of conformity provided for in articles L.211-4 and following of the Consumer Code. This remedy is available within 2 years from the date of purchase, and there is a presumption of non-conformity for 6 months, which means that it is up to the seller to prove that the PC is functioning in accordance with what can be expected!

For three weeks, I've had an HP Pavilion with Wi-Fi. I installed the Sagem software from Orange, followed the procedure, but I made a mistake; I installed a wired connection with Ethernet. It works very well, but I don't have Wi-Fi. The software is N0 8 from Orange. I just need to start the operation again using the wireless connection protocol, and everything should be back to normal according to the telecoms. On the installation sheet, on one side there's the wired installation settings, and on the reverse side, wireless installation, hence my installation error. In the forum, I don't see anyone talking about the installation software; their problems might come from that.

Hi and happy holidays. Same here, very little internet connection time for the past two months since I changed my PC to Vista. I had an Acer that I exchanged for an HP, same problem. I spend hours with Club Internet's hotline, which tells me it's my PC that's faulty!!! I can understand that, but twice!!!!!!!!!! I need to regularly unplug the Ethernet cable and sometimes like now, luck is on my side; Club will replace the modem for the second time, but even their CD is not compatible with Vista. I'm waiting for their new exchange and depending on the result, I will go to the DGCCRF website to explain my problem because we pay €29.90/month for not much. Here is, I hope for everyone, the solution that will work wonders. Indeed, this may be related to the TCP/IP layer of Vista that blocks access to many programs using the Internet:

1: Click on the Windows logo at the bottom left,
2: Then on all programs,
3: Accessories,
4: Go to the Command Prompt, right-click on it and Run as Administrator. The window should darken and ask you to continue if you are an administrator of the PC; otherwise, you will need an administrator login and password,
5: Once in the black window (MS-DOS), type this:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
Then press the enter key, a message should appear afterwards saying Ok, you have just disabled this TCP/IP layer...

And for those who have difficulty performing the operation, send me a private message ONLY with your email address, and I will then send you the procedure with screenshots to help you follow the steps above!

Hello  I am the owner of a PC with the XP operating system, my wife just acquired a small laptop in the nice colors of VISTA. Our problem is exactly the same as EVA's (message from December 26, 2007), and we have the same ISP, namely ORANGE... which provides a CD-ROM that is already incompatible with the security of XP!!! So for VISTA, let's not even talk about it. Is it incompetence from MICROSOFT's support or ORANGE's, or maybe both???? Anyway, be careful with your operating systems, this is all just marketing to make us buy new peripherals and new software branded VISTA. I hope MICROSOFT IS AWARE of the problem and will eventually fix it, because we little consumers are fed up...

Hello,  I had the same problem as you.  It was impossible to display any web page (neither in IE7 nor in Opera) while my PC (running Vista) was connected to the internet (through my Sagem livebox). Vista was able to perform updates, and I could 'ping' or 'tracert' google.com in the DOS command!!  On my motherboard, I have two network cards, and I had the same issue on both. My other PC running XP had no problem accessing the internet.  Everything was working perfectly for over a year until a power outage, who knows what happened in Vista!  I searched for several things on forums, but nothing worked. So I don't have a miracle solution; I put my (original) Vista CD in my drive and restarted the installation (migrating) over my system, it took me two or three hours (it kept all my configuration and documents, I just had to reinstall the updates): and then the internet started working again (access to web pages)!  It's not great, but it's something.  ++

Enjoy  Yeah, a lot of people complain about this connection problem, and more than half have downloaded Vista and installed a miserable crack filled with worms or viruses of that sort.  This is not nonsense; it's just verified on a not-so-legal forum that I won't even name XD Without any hardware change, just by buying a genuine version, everything started working like magic.  P.S(1): WARNING, Vista is pricey; the proof is its price for the Ultimate... if you don't have the money to pay for it, don't download it.  P.S(2): I do not claim that everyone who posted here downloaded the OS in question, but I'm sure there will be a few concerned ones ^^

I have a laptop with Windows Vista, and I always connect it to a local internet network (at work), so far so good, but after installing an ADSL connection at home, I can't reconnect it to the local network at work. When I plug in the cable, the indicator shows that I am connected to the local network, but there is no more internet connection. A small window appears giving me the option for an ADSL connection, as if the ADSL connection has taken priority. Hello!  I might have a solution for you. I couldn't connect to the public network at my university and actually, it's because WINDOWS VISTA is too protected! I had the same problem as most of you, which is that it connected to the local network but couldn't connect to the internet!  The solution (worked for me and quite a few of my friends): - Open Internet Explorer - Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - And there, scroll down to the bottom of the list (under Security), uncheck TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 and check SSL 2.0 - Restart Internet Explorer and you're good to go!  Be careful, every time Internet Explorer updates, the previous settings are reactivated, so you may need to do this manipulation multiple times!  I really hope this can help you!  Best regards

Add the following DNS address: For Vista users who cannot connect to certain websites like Google or Yahoo, they should add this address, which is 208.67.222.222, and bam, it works perfectly. Hello, I have the same problem as some of you. I bought a Dell XPS One Red with Windows Vista Ultimate, and I've recently gotten a Neuf connection. No issues during installation, Vista finds the internet connection (I have the latest info in the Vista bar on the right side of the screen), the decoder works normally, and yet I can't open an Internet Explorer page either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet; I can't even access my box with the link http://192.168.1.1! A friend of mine has even managed to connect from his computer with XP using both cable and Wi-Fi (he’s also with Neuf). This is frustrating!!! It's incomprehensible. If anyone has any information or tips to share, don’t hesitate, I'm struggling, especially to know if I should contact Neuf support or Dell. Hi, I found the solution to connect to the internet with Vista wirelessly! First, you need to delete all other connection attempts! (You have to go to Network and Sharing Center and then to Manage Wireless Networks, you delete them) then you go to Manage Network Connections, right-click on the wireless network connection, Properties (but there is a password it will ask you for) then you go to Internet Protocol Version 4, click on Properties and set it to obtain an IP address automatically and for the one below, it's the same. Then in Network and Sharing Center, go to Connect to a network then to Set up a connection or network, then to Connect to the internet, wait a few seconds and then it will ask you for your Wi-Fi security key, enter it and you're done!!!

I found the solution all by myself like a big kid! (For my case, and I’m sharing it with others) For those equipped with Vista and pre-installed McAfee, try this:  Simply uninstall it! (Not too hard lol)  The problem is that you have to configure the network from the security center, but it's impossible because you need a user account (and that was the case).  So uninstall it, and reinstall with the CD, or install something else instead. I really hope this trick helps some of you get out of this mess...  See you!

For the small problem, it was working before and now it's not working anymore !! You just need to deactivate all the firewalls you installed. I had an antivirus and since then it doesn't work anymore. I had the same problem, I deactivated all the firewalls and it worked very well since then !!!  On the other hand, I just bought a new PC and I would like to connect it via Wi-Fi!!! And so I'm trying but the only issue is that it says "network not identified" instead of "local network and internet" so I can't go online!! Hello, I just acquired a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P that runs on Vista. The seller told me that the computer had a network card that worked with Wi-Fi. Hello, I am just a victim among many others^^ So I have Windows Vista Home version.. an Acer Aspire PC... ISP: Cegetel via 9 Telecom. Anyway, at the beginning of the story, I connected my PC to my Ethernet network (through the cable) and everything worked perfectly until the day I went to a friend's house and connected to her Wi-Fi network... no problem connecting (her ISP: 9 Telecom) and since that day I can't reconnect to my network at home after hours of premium-rate calls with advisors, nothing works.. Hello,  I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite P300-19H laptop configured with Windows Vista Home Premium.  I want to connect it to the Internet via Wi-Fi through my Inventel modem from Wanadoo. Currently, this modem is connected via cable (USB) to my desktop PC running XP.  I do not want to set up a wired connection between the laptop and the modem (I believe a laptop should be portable, so no cables other than the power cord).  My problem is as follows: the Toshiba detects my Inventel modem, but when I try to connect to it, it displays "Windows cannot connect to (Network name)" and gives me two options: either to diagnose the problem, and if I click that, it tells me it can't do anything and we go back to square one, or to connect to another network, but since it doesn’t detect any others, we end up in the same situation...  Can you help me??  Thank you.

Hello everyone I had the same problem, my PC connected to the network but unable to access the internet except by going to start/network settings/configure a connection or network/next/browse the internet now  The solution to your problem can be found on this forum, page 3  from toftol91  I'm quoting it A quick, radical, and effective solution here: http://www.vista-xp.fr/forum/topic276.html  However, I find the restore point useless....  Just do this: 1. Launch a command window in Start/Accessories as administrator (right-click on the shortcut). 2. Type "netsh int ip reset" 3. Restart 4. Relaunch the command window precisely the same way 5. Type "netsh winsock reset" 6. Restart  And oh magic, everything works!!!   It worked very well for me; however, I only type netsh in the search, then right-click on netsh as administrator afterwards I write the commands without netsh since it's already there in msdos  Good luck everyone, but the solution is there.

I also have an internet connection problem: my network card works perfectly, it’s operational and recognized by the OS. It also recognizes a network connection, but only local. After checking the proper functioning of the card with my ISP and then with DELL's technical support (since my PC is a DELL), it turns out that there is indeed a problem with Vista. I indeed had the same problem: the Internet connection works well, I can ping but no Internet browsing is possible either with IE or Netscape. I ran the commands from page 3 of this thread but without success.  The problem was caused by this: Norton from Symantec was no longer up to date and it blocks browsing, uninstalling it manually (control panel / remove program) may not be enough, and it needs to be uninstalled through a program (e.g. Norton Removall) that can be found on the Internet. Vista is a real piece of crap, worse than XP. The internet doesn't work, it doesn't automatically detect wireless connections like XP does, it asks you every time to approve clicks, it doesn't allow you to play audio files from another admin user... Those bastards at Microsoft messed up the software, instead of releasing the version intended for the general public, they put out the CIA version for consumers. But what do we care about their shitty security? The PC is ours and if we want to secure it, we can do it ourselves. They should have made that an option and kept the good things from previous versions because Vista is crap. Menus that don't display anymore, you have to search for them, and so on. Damn it, it's a piece of sh*t, it really isn't worth buying. Even pirating it isn't really a good deal. I'm sticking with XP and I even wanted to keep the good old 98 because those idiots instead of keeping the ability to not wipe all files during a new installation like in 98, with XP they delete everything. I only use Vista for testing; it drives you crazy, you have nerve attacks with it!

However, I can still play online games like Counter-Strike, but I can't open any web pages. The problem is known, it concerns the TCPIP layer that is causing issues. Simply disable it to resolve the problem:

1: Click on the Windows logo in the bottom left,
2: Then on All Programs,
3: Accessories,
4: Hover over Command Prompt, right-click on it and Run as Administrator; the window should darken and it should ask you to continue if you are the administrator of the PC, otherwise, you will need an administrator login and password,
5: Once in the black window (MS-DOS), type this:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
Then press the enter key, a message should appear afterwards saying Ok, you have just disabled this TCP/IP layer ...

Here is the solution:  1. Open Network Connections, click on the Start button, go to Control Panel, then Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center, and finally click on Manage Network Connections.  2. Right-click on the connection, then click on Properties. If prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, provide the password or confirmation.  3. In the Networking tab, double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4.  4. In the General tab, click on: - Obtain an IP address automatically - Obtain DNS server addresses automatically  good luck.

Sharing the same problem as all of you, I found a few solutions that all worked for me.  First, you can simply switch to Linux which does not cause any problems with the wireless internet connection.  You can also go back to Windows XP.  Or finally, you can simply disable the feature in Vista that disables wireless internet when the computer is in battery-saving mode, so you might have guessed that this solution only works for laptops. This solution has been tested on a custom-made router using the WPA-2 protocol, because on all the others I have never had this problem.  To do this, you go to the start menu and click on Network connections (in French it should be Connexion réseau)  - After that, you enter the properties of your wireless network. You will probably need to provide a password if you are not an administrator.  - Then you click on Configure  - You go to the Power Management tab and uncheck the box that allows Vista to disable the wireless internet when the computer is not plugged in. And there you go.  If that doesn’t work, try turning off the power to the router and the modem to reset it so it gives you a new IP address.   In conclusion, Vista is not very effective; I would love to know who the genius was who invented the option to disable the internet when the laptop is unplugged when it is precisely at those times that we need it.  P.S. If you have another operating system using the connection, you should disable it when you're done, otherwise Vista can be temperamental but that is not confirmed.

Hello everyone,  After a week of hassle due to this internet connection problem on Vista despite the general proper functioning of the hardware, modem, etc., I have just found a solution.  Although there may be several ways to get through since each case is different, I wanted to share my experience; it might help someone.  In fact, for me, the problem simply stemmed from Windows Defender. After cleaning up the computer and removing programs that I no longer used (notably Norton), it installed by default, which caused connection issues with Internet Explorer and Firefox.  I called my box's hotline, I tried to navigate through various websites and advice forums, and I attempted all the possible manipulations that were mentioned; I messed up my computer... all for nothing!  In the end, realizing the discreet and insidious presence of Windows Defender and disabling it was a miracle—everything works wonderfully!  It's nice to finally have a fast and decent connection again.  Good luck to you all.

But I found out why, it's because of Internet Explorer, it was misconfigured!!! Hello everyone, for my part, the solution was suggested by Internet Explorer, in "Information" under the "Diagnose Connection Problems" button, namely:  "If it is a HTTPS address (secure), click on Tools, then Internet Options, then Advanced and check that the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled in the security section."  I went (on IE) to Tools > Internet Options > "Advanced" tab > Security > check TLS 1.0 (then "apply", "OK" and refresh the page).
