Hello,  upon startup, the following message appears and stops the PC "usb device over current detected, please remove over current usb device"  the PC no longer starts, what should I do?

The same problem was solved today very easily: one of the front USB ports on the PC was defective: it was enough to straighten the crushed tabs with a pointed object to avoid bad contacts, and everything is working again. Except for the USB port that will have to go back for service. Bye. Mazelles

I had the same problem and it was really a hassle.
The first (and not great) solution is to go into the BIOS and set everything to USB 1.1.

The good solution is to go to page 22 (in the PDF) of the manual. In fact, you need to change all the jumpers (maybe not all, but well, all works) from USB to +5VSB.
In the end, three jumpers to move and then it works perfectly.

the post date is old and I suppose you have solved your problem since then.
I just had the same issue today with an Asus P5K motherboard mounted in a Gigabyte 3D Aurora case.
Brand new setup and I couldn't boot into the BIOS because it would automatically disconnect after 15 seconds with the message "usb device over current."
The solution for me was to unplug the cable from the case that connects the front USB connectors to the motherboard.
It seems like a short circuit at the cable or the USB ports of the case since nothing was plugged into them.

I also had this problem with a new ASUS K8V-XE motherboard.
After analysis, I noticed that there was a missing USB jumper "W2".
I put a jumper with the default configuration and it worked again.

Hello,
I finally found my solution. For me, it was a physical problem. My motherboard has 2 sets of USB ports, one of which is at the front.
This position weakens the connection. Upon closer inspection of the ports, I realized that one was damaged and that the metal strips were bent, creating a short circuit.
I straightened them out with a small screwdriver, UNPLUGGED!!! of course
I rebooted. It threw a little tantrum like "I've stored the incident in memory, restart the boot"
with the combination "ctrl+alt+del" the BIOS restarted and everything went back to normal.

I put a bit of electrical tape (black because it looks nicer) to insulate the contacts of the motherboard with the case. Since then, everything is working great, I know I'm a bit late but well...

hi GuiGuiIII. well actually, try to take all your hardware out of the case. if it works once outside the case, put some tape on the areas where the screws will be (this will prevent false contacts)

if that doesn't work, try to look for the jumpers (small blue or green things that bridge between 2 pins), and look on the motherboard for the legends that correspond and set all the USB to the "+5VSB" position.

Thank you for replying SoftReaper, I tried connecting it outside the case but it still does the same, and then in my case there are no USB wires to connect it to the card at the designated port. On my motherboard, there are ports with blue notches labeled USB56 and USB78.

Hello, it's a Compaq v5000 laptop. It was working beautifully while we were working on a phone connected to this computer via the USB cable. Once I unplugged the cable, the ports stopped functioning. I updated the BIOS, but nothing changed. What should I do? Please help me.

Hi! No one thought of it, but it also causes the error when changing the motherboard.
In fact, the old "standoffs" that are still screwed into the case can contact the new motherboard.
This creates a short circuit and the error.
So check before securing the motherboard that there is no contact.
It's trivial, but it's worth thinking about.

I had the same problem with a P5QL PRO, there was a damn jumper missing on the PS2/USB jumper at the top right of the mobo!!! 3 hours wasted because of an oversight by Asus... Because without this jumper, it's impossible to do anything... 0
