Good evening,
I received an email from the Rue du Commerce website following a purchase made today, in which they request documents to validate my order. I find this a bit strange, but after some research online, I see that this is common practice, and this request for documents is mentioned on the site. I have done what is necessary, but I don't know how to confirm whether the documents have been received. Will I receive a confirmation email? Can I be sure that the order will be processed properly? And that I will receive it in a timely manner?
Thank you for your response.

Hello everyone,

Just a quick note to share my theory on the subject:

It seems to me that "Rue du commerce" is actually protecting itself.
I think (though I can't be sure) that when a purchase is made online with a stolen card, the merchant does not receive the amount of the sale, meaning that they are the ones who get robbed!
That's why "Rue du commerce" is protecting itself in this silly way, while trying (because not all of us are idiots) to make us believe that it's for the protection of its customers (who, by the way, are NOT the owners of the stolen cards).

- A future former customer who just got duped!

I ordered a laptop yesterday and I just received that infamous email requesting proof, I find this unacceptable. You claim to ask for this to ensure our security, but what guarantees do we have that you are not keeping the documents sent and that they are not accessible to hackers who could easily use the information provided to truly steal our identity.
Then you say that you only request this information once, but who tells you that the second order will not be made by someone who stole the credit card this time?
I categorically refuse to send (especially by email to make it even easier to intercept) my personal information, and if I can't speak to someone who can fix this, I will cancel my order and never order again. I would rather pay more than be scammed!
My order number is 367719344, I would like to know its status because it says it's being processed, but obviously, that may not be the case..

This article should provide some information (page 2 about the credit card):

A rule on the internet and email: never send bank details or personal information in response to an email request... whether the request comes from a legitimate source or a hacker, phishing attempt, or a simple scammer, do not respond. Such practices are intolerable and questionable in all cases. In short, flee... It’s almost worse if it’s really the legitimate source that imposes such an infinitely insecure and time-consuming process on its clients!

What, you don't want to provide a double-sided copy of your ID card and your proof of address???
So you have something to hide?
You're probably a scammer!
It's well-known that a copy of an ID card and proof of address is the deadly trick against scammers!
A good customer has no secrets from their supplier.
Even if the latter didn't ask the right questions before the order, just in case that discourages.
Besides, at rue du commerce, we really care about you.
To protect you; with love.

Without wanting to give a negative judgment, I was very surprised by this approach, which apparently is quite common. I also work in a customer service department, and there is a huge disconnect between the first confirmation email stating that the products will be sent as soon as possible and the second one that says that until you receive the documentation, there will be no delivery. It’s very contradictory and confusing for the customer. Especially when you place an order on Saturday at 7 PM and there is no hotline or live chat from Saturday night to Monday morning. You should mention that in the first email, as it would surely be more understandable for your customers...

Hello,

I take note of that, however all online merchants operate this way for certain orders.

It simply allows us to guarantee you complete transaction security.

Indeed, if your card had been stolen or if an algorithm found online had allowed a malicious individual to discover your number, they could have placed an order with us without any consequences. Identity verification helps mitigate this significant risk.

I remain at your disposal and wish you a very good day.

Yes, except that in this case we're still being charged, I don't see how that secures anything.... Why not use the bank's verification system, which we're seeing more and more?
Personally, I wonder if I'm going to cancel my order, in several years, it's really the first time I've been asked for something like this....

Re:

False 'security' argument put forward by RdC..

Indeed, the CMF L133-18 protects the Client victim of credit card info theft (Full reimbursement):

https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/codes/id/LEGISCTA000020861595/2013-03-12/

Let's avoid E-Commerce sites practicing this kind of 'control' (No guarantee of securing documents sent by the Client).

It's completely false; major retailers like eBay or Amazon never ask you for this type of verification.

I am following up on this message... Same surprise but the package has not yet been delivered! (I paid €15 for a Chronopost to have it on time for my girlfriend's birthday... a surprise somewhat ruined and €15 stuck in my throat! I'm especially annoyed that I have no way to communicate with them besides their paid number (where I was given 2 FALSE pieces of advice... namely 1°) to remain confident about the processing of my request 2°) to call back as soon as the documents are processed to change the delivery method if it could not be done on time. I feel like it’s enough to post a message here to get a response from Rue du Commerce (still surprising when there is a dedicated website!). What are my options to get a refund for these Chronopost fees? I know the entire process is outlined in the T&Cs but the transparency of "delivered within 48 hours" that made me choose the Rue du Commerce website is a bit lacking...
Best regards,
Loïc Colomb
P.S.: My girlfriend’s disappointment is not refundable.....

Your anti-piracy verification system is a monumental screw-up. This will be my first and last purchase on Rue du Commerce.
Order validated on a Friday.... supporting documents requested the next day, to be sent on Tuesday due to a public holiday = 3 days lost for my delivery!
Moreover, I feel sorry for the poor guy on your phone line who keeps repeating your mind-numbing speeches about your security procedures.
It might be a bit more sensible to ask for the supporting documents at the time of the order, don't you think?
I feel trapped by your system because having already provided my banking identity, I'm afraid of being debited even if I do not provide the requested documents.

I find the request for supporting documents (copy of ID + credit card front/back) from RDC completely inappropriate and dangerous. I preferred to cancel my order.
I am outraged to have had to pay for information over the phone.
Communication is absolutely terrible and borderline dishonest.
AVOID this site for your purchases!

Hello Jaya,

It is completely your right to think this about us.

Just know that this verification is mandated by law, which requires us to prevent any fraud upfront, rather than after the order has been shipped.

If the customer service by phone is not satisfactory, we are active daily on major social media and consumer forums.

Best regards,

Hello, I also felt confident and placed an order.. However, you should be aware that your discourse on protecting potential theft victims does not inspire confidence at all!!
,
Let alone for a main reason that you NEVER ANSWER: WHY DO YOU NOT REQUEST THESE STRICTLY PERSONAL AND SENSITIVE DOCUMENTS AT THE TIME OF THE ORDER!! ??? Why the next day or 2 days later depending on the time of purchase, it is a waste of time that can be significant depending on the day one places their order, and one has the feeling of being trapped! Many complain about this, why don’t you remedy it??

Where do you find your interest??

I myself placed an order on your site, receiving an email with my order number promising that you would do your best to deliver on time..

I later read an email asking for a photocopy of my ID documents, after some research online, I sent you everything and to this day I have not received a confirmation email of receipt of this sensitive data and my order tracking is inaccessible on your site

Should I be worried??

My order number is: 331510234

Best regards

Hello

The argument of 'consumer protection' is just a bunch of hot air. Indeed, in the case of an Unauthorized Operation (e.g., fraudulent use of 'hacked' credit card data), one can be reimbursed immediately by the Bank under the provisions of the Monetary Code Article L133-18.

https://www.legifrance.gouv.fr/codes/id/LEGISCTA000020861595/2013-03-12/

By the way, which law imposes this so-called verification carried out by the minority of E-commerce sites?

Moreover, the least one could do would be to inform the Customer of these checks BEFORE they confirm their order.

For my part, I’m not ready to place an order on such amateur sites and I don't hesitate to spread the word about them!

See you!

Hello Dodie,

We are working to improve our security and we are considering ways to enhance it.

For the moment, this solution remains the best and only affects your customer account once.

As for your order, it is currently being shipped and the delivery tracking will be provided to you this evening.

Have a great day.
Best regards,
Michel

Hello,

I was disappointed, like most other people, by the request for supporting documents for certain personal papers that were requested three days later (on a Monday evening when I had placed the order on a Friday evening), with the sending done on Tuesday, resulting in 3 lost days...

Why on earth not ask for these supporting documents at the time of purchase? What are you afraid of? Why do you never answer this crucial question?

Personally, I think that this request for supporting documents is absolutely pointless and only creates a tremendous mess for both you and us, since, as mentioned earlier, all credit cards without exception are insured against this kind of fraud...

Good evening, I am facing the same problem as all those people who are complaining about your checks received 24 hours after my order. There is no law that allows RUE DU COMMERCE to ask me for my documents as they have no certification to do so. As for the so-called verification, know that having paid with my VISA card, I received a verification SMS on my mobile phone with a number that I had to enter during my banking validation. Oh, but what if my phone had also been stolen! What nonsense! I am hesitating to cancel my order, to involve my lawyer, and to demand compensation corresponding to the sale price and legal fees + compensation for refusal to sell.
As for the idiot who criticizes others saying that if we are honest, we have nothing to hide, let him know that my documents are sacred (given the issues of identity theft) and that except for the police, gendarmerie, or to go collect a acknowledgment of receipt, I never show them, let alone a photocopy. Ridiculous.

I don't want to add anything to the subject: the same indignation, compounded by your lies meant to make us believe that this is for our safety and not yours.

I would like my order to be canceled as soon as possible: number [435741620].

Thank you in advance.

Hello

It's not by requesting the cancellation of your order on a site that has no connection to RdC that you'll achieve satisfaction..

Do it from your 'personal space' (if it exists..). If you don't receive a confirmation (letter or email..) cancel by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt and fully explain the justified reason....

Refund within 14 days MAX.

See you!

gabaphage Posted messages 3 Status Member

Others have asked for this here and received satisfaction, it seems.
In any case, I've changed my mind, so if someone from RdC comes by, ABOVE ALL DO NOT CANCEL THIS ORDER!
Thank you

(unless someone knows how to delete an old message?)

Your package has just been shipped (Carrier: Relais Colis) and tracking is not yet available.

It should be accessible from your client area (in the order tracking) this evening or tomorrow.

Thank you very much, to you as well

(Even though I complied out of necessity, I still oppose this kind of verification, especially when it takes place after and not during, or even before, the payment phase.)

Hello everyone,

I think we're at the same point 5 years later...
Order placed today. Validation request received a few hours later. A dozen calls to a number starting with 08 (not a premium rate, I hope) and the voice server informs me that the verification service is exceptionally closed. Seriously??? You require me to verify my identity and you don’t give me the opportunity to do so…
Please let me know the procedure to follow, otherwise I will cancel my order (1495171215).

Wanting to order SD cards on Amazon, I am faced with that famous request for documents: order canceled, account permanently closed.
I therefore turn to a more "local" and hopefully more honest alternative: same problem. Order canceled, account permanently closed.

No phone call, no email, no switchboard, no hassle. There are enough SD card sellers that I won’t comply with this intrusive and despicable practice.

Note: I still find it amusing to note that the verification request happens after payment to play on people's desperation. Some really have no shame.
And not to mention the usual refrain "but it’s for your security." Of course.

I truly pity the communication employee who is desperately trying to clean up their employers' reputation. Good luck to him, hoping he finds better things to do soon.

Even if this thread has come back from the dead, I remind you that under French law, only officials or persons working under the authority of a ministry can verify an identity document.

For a payment by check as well, anyone who receives the payment can verify the identity document, according to the Monetary and Financial Code.

For everything else, only judicial police officers, including gendarmes, can verify an identity document, according to the Code of Criminal Procedure; municipal police cannot, nor can a security guard, Facebook, or Rue du Commerce.

You should never, under any circumstances, transmit such private documents online!
You could be dealing with impersonation of judicial, police, or regulated professions, and prison time could be at stake.

If you pay, you do not have to justify who you are!
