Replace the tracking hue with black

Hello,

I am in charge of the communication for my company. I was hired at the beginning of the year and I am taking over files created by previous graphic designers.

There’s a clever one, in a 170-page catalog full of tables (extracted from the range), who used the spot color for the lines and borders of the tables.
It is impossible to remove this color and automatically replace it with black, so I am looking for a quick way to make this modification.

Do you have a solution? I am using InDesign CS5.5

Thank you.

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 16.0

Hello,

Have you tried the search function (CTRL + F)?
You can specify in the bottom areas (Search format) particular attributes (in this case, contours in recognition...) and replace them with (Replace format) a black outline).

Otherwise, try to see if the tables have a common style so you can act directly on the style.

Hello,

No, there is no common style.
In fact, I have 143 Indesign files, each with 1 page, as each page corresponds to a type of material/brand.

When I compile the product range, I copy/paste these pages into a single file.

Throughout the year, each page manager sends me their corrections and I re-edit the PDF that is accessible on our intranet (hence the idea of file/page).

I will test when I find a page with the guidelines since of course now that I am searching, I cannot find it. There have been 4 graphic designers before me and it's a bit of a mess in the folders. I correct the mistakes as I go.

I have seen things like white bubbles to hide the page numbers because the person didn’t know how to use the templates. The old catalog had each page as a section start, which caused chaos with the slightest movement...

I will try this week when I have a little peace to think.

Thank you.

I lost the text I had just typed.

To make a long story short, not all the files have this issue; I need to search through these 143 files for the few pages that have this problem...

So it doesn't work. I just realized that on these pages, the texts are also in highlight colors; I tested the text search function with highlight colors, and it doesn't work.

So I find myself forced to check these 143 pages of articles one by one... what a crazy idea to use highlight colors... I'm surprised that the printer didn't specify this error to me during the proofing before printing.

Anyway, thanks anyway for the idea.

At the service provider, when encountering a file with this kind of error, it is not the native file in InDesign but more often a PDF... And in the PDF, this error can be easily corrected with Pitstop.

There are still some tricks that can help find the color reference elements in a page, it is the "separation preview" function. By adjusting "separation" and especially "ink limit," setting a threshold at 390% should highlight in red everything at 400%, revealing the texts that are different.

Try to see if you can take advantage of this function.

That's how I realized that the texts were also marked; I removed the black tint.
I will check with this function because I saw an image where some parts turned red, I wasn't sure if that was it, I learned InDesign on my own, having done my training on Xpress.

I trust the printer managing this project, which is printed on a rotary press because we are producing more than 15,000 copies; if there were a major issue, he would let me know.

Thank you for the info.

If you activate the "black limit" function with a threshold of 300%, there is a good chance that some areas in the images will turn red... it's "almost" normal... well, if they are CMYK...

Generally, we do not exceed 320% to avoid smudging... but there are some providers who ask for 270%... (as if their ink doesn't dry!)

If it passes on roto, there is a good chance that the file goes through a verification software and unless there is a major mistake (like the registration black), all the small errors are corrected.

Thank you, with all this information I will be able to make all the checks as I apply the corrections given.

I am marking the issue as resolved.

A little feedback for those who might encounter this.

Once the catalog assembly was done, I created a control profile upstream by specifying among other settings: Colorimetric mapping not allowed.
As a result, the list of tables with the problematic pages is displayed.
Fortunately for me, the list isn't too long.
