ASUS Laptop Keyboard Issue

Question

Good evening everyone,

For the past two days, some keys on my keyboard have stopped working...

It's an ASUS K72JT laptop, it's 1 year old.

It's not one particular side, but a few keys here and there, as well as some keys on the numeric keypad.

Here's what I've already done based on what I've read on forums:

- Removed the battery, turned off and turned on the computer without the battery.
- Checked for driver updates, no issues detected with the keyboard driver, and it's indicated as okay by my computer.

Nothing works...

One more thing that's quite intriguing is that when I turn on the computer and need to enter the user password, it automatically inputs a bunch of little crosses just like when entering a password... As if a key is stuck and writing by itself, but after checking, that's not the case.

Could it be a virus problem or just a hardware issue?

Hi, I had the same problem for a while, at first the keys only worked once every 5 times. For the past two weeks, they haven't worked at all.
Yesterday I played a game and I had to switch my keyboard to QWERTY instead of AZERTY by pressing Alt + Shift. I don't know if it was the game or the action (or neither), but since then my keyboard works perfectly!

Reading your message, I see that I have the same problem with my ASUS X77J purchased in April 2010.
Did you find a solution to your problem? If so, I would be interested. My hypothesis is that it could be a short circuit in my laptop's keyboard. That remains to be verified? But before buying a new one, I want to be sure that changing the keyboard will fix the issue...

Hello,  I also have a keyboard problem, it doesn't work anymore! Neither does the mouse! However, when I plug in a USB mouse it works but not the keyboard... what should I do?

From reading your comments, I can tell you what I did to solve this problem. I plugged in another external keyboard to my laptop, and it worked. I deduced that it was the laptop's keyboard that was defective (after asking the ASUS HOTLINE if they could help me, for a fee of €70).
I then removed the laptop's keyboard, identified the reference number written under the keyboard, and ordered one from Hong Kong for €24 including shipping, with a delivery time of 24 days.
Upon receiving the keyboard, I connected the ribbon cable of the new keyboard, and everything works normally.

Do all the keys on the keyboard work, for example, the numeric keypad!

Indeed, I didn't read the rest of the first message. What do you actually want? The PC works with another keyboard, everything is fine, no viruses, no driver issues.
The solution, you know it, either you change the keyboard, or you take the PC for repairs.
Check the ASUS forum.

PS: I had exactly the same problem. Now it's my opinion, and I'm not infallible.

Well, I have a big problem with my keyboard; when I press a key, it types the one next to it or the one above it... and some keys open links...
Please help me!

I just restarted my computer and it started updating drivers and configuring, and my keyboard started working again.
