Mini DV file transfer (Canon XM1)

Hello,

I would like to purchase a Canon XM1 camera; however, after extensive research, I noticed that it is not possible to transfer videos to my laptop as I do not have any FireWire ports or any card readers (PCMCIA or ExpressCard, I believe).

However, my brother has a MacBook with the correct FireWire port, so I would like to know if it would be possible to transfer the videos via his computer, put them on an external hard drive, and then finally transfer them to my computer.

Thank you in advance,
Paul.

Hello, unusual question that I would like to answer; I think it's possible, or I don't see what could prevent it.
However, the audio and video files might be separated, so everything will need to be retrieved.
Another workaround is to finalize with the Mac software (iMovie?) the files in, for example, mpeg2 and transfer them without issues for editing.

The "captures" coming from the camcorder will be in aviDV: 13GB per hour.

Alright, I'm editing in Vegas, so if I recover the file for my PC, I hope I don't lose any sounds along the way...
