[MP3]: unable to create the directory

Solved

Hello

Here’s my problem

I ordered a 1GB MP3 player from a website last week, and it's from the brand Néo.

I received it two days ago and tried to add music to it. After using about ~650MB (with 325MB free), I can no longer add music, and I receive this error message:

" Unable to copy *song title*: Unable to create the directory or file. "

And I can't add anything anymore.. I tried removing all the music from the MP3 and putting it back but to no avail, I still get this error message after about 650MB of music added.

I even tried restarting my computer, but it's still the same

What should I do? Please reply quickly, help me!

This error "Unable to copy *song title*: Unable to create the directory or file." on a USB drive is related to the fact that these drives are formatted in FAT(16), which has a limit on the number of files that can be placed in the "root" directory. It is therefore common for this message to appear, even when the drive is far from being full.

> "I tried but it says: unable to create the folder 'new folder' Unable to create the directory or file..."

You need to delete at least 1 or 2 files. Then you will be able to create the new folder. After that, reduce the number of files in the root directory by placing them in folders.

Depending on the software you are using to read your mp3s, I don't know if grouping them in folders will cause a playback issue or not. But one thing is certain: this limit on the number of files in the root directory of a USB drive, especially if the names of these files are long.

You need to create a new folder in the USB drive directory and then copy the remaining files into it. I don't know why this happens, but at least this way it works.

Hello,
this is the first message I'm posting on this forum!
Here is my problem: I have an MP3 player brand "digital player MP4", well, it's my father's!
I wanted to reorganize an existing playlist on his player by adding a few tracks, so to make the task easier, I deleted the content of his player by selecting a track and then choosing: "delete all". I see that everything has been erased! So far, so good!
Later, once the selection was made, I wanted to transfer my selection to the player (send to "removable disk") and that’s where the problems start: "unable to create the folder or file".
I go to "My Computer", select the corresponding removable disk for the player, no files! I try to create one and here’s the message: "unable to create the folder: new folder, unable to create a directory or file"... I hope I have been clear enough?
PS: when I try to open the music folder of the MP3 player, it says: no documents!

What should I do to transfer music from the PC to the MP3 player?
I have the impression that I have deleted, along with the music, the different files that made up the MP3 player (except for the games and settings mode upon verification)

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Jamilia!
To format your MP3 player, it's easy:
go to "My Computer."
Your hard drive, CD drive, and also your MP3 player should normally appear (it must be connected to your PC, of course)!
With your mouse, right-click on the icon representing your MP3 player and then select "format."

Your problem should be resolved.

Hi Dimitri, your advice worked! After 2 hours of searching, I was able to add music to the MP3 that wouldn’t accept any music. Thank you so much, you’re a genius!!

Hello, yesterday I reset my mp3 (1GB "digital mp3 player") and actually I put some music on it, it worked well and then I removed it but I think I deleted the "record" file and that file is causing me a problem. I always get the same message when I try to put music on my mp3: "impossible to create a directory or a file," so it's quite annoying and I'm not a computer expert, that's why I'm counting on you to let me know your solutions.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE AND I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR RESPONSES WITH IMPATIENCE.

In the meantime, you could think about learning to write correctly because I stopped at the third line. It's true that almost everyone writes like that - even I do - but you shouldn't overdo it!
