Hello everyone,
I find myself facing the same question as many people here.
...for some time now (with all the basic features disappearing for no reason every year) I'm literally losing it (...)
Does anyone know and could explain to me "easily": how do we now -when it was present and so simple under XP- modify all the fields of selected audio files? (Right click -> Properties -> Details)
That is to say:
Artist Name - Album Name - Year - Genre (for multiple files) + Track Name - Comment - Track Number - Lyrics - etc... (single file)
By the way, I could even enter a track name in our alphabet for display on the PC in the folder and in the original language (e.g.: Japanese) in the audio player, directly in properties under XP!!!
For my part: with the W7-N that I’m dealing with, I can't access anything!
PS - please: no replies suggesting downloading and installing third-party software (like MP3tag), restarting, transferring, saving... It's crazy! In 2014 we now constantly have to install separate software to perform an operation that was readily accessible before!! It’s absurd and pathetic...and precisely what drives me crazy...
- The "read-only" is disabled of course.
- I use Winamp and I know how to use it: but the question is not there.
Let’s stay focused on these super-great new versions of the Windows OS...
It was possible directly under Windows in earlier versions, why today should I first transfer my music to my player and change each doc separately and especially go through software?
By the way, in Winamp: we can select everything but going to "file information..." you have to enter the info for each track independently.

Hey everyone,
I have mp3 files whose properties I can't change. I go to the summary tab, and then to advanced and I can only change the track number and the title. But I would like to change all the fields, author, album, year, track number, genre of music... etc... (as was possible before)
Thank you for advising me because I'm losing it. I never have the same artist names when I listen to my music.

I've always used Winamp except that, if the info for some files on Windows is incomplete, Winamp separates them from the others. Example: I have tracks on the same album where Windows doesn't display the artist. So when I select the album in Winamp I have track 4 before track 1, no artists or track names, etc >:/ The only solution would be to change on Windows. Any solution? I'm not in read-only mode and indeed I can't change the details...

I know where to go to do it, but I can't modify them, when I click on them, nothing happens.
Thanks in advance :)

Hello everyone,
I'm reaching out for a little help because I would like to modify the properties of certain audio files directly under Windows.
So, do you have a solution?
Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 34.0.1847.116
Thank you!

I have Windows 8.1 so I don't know if it works for Windows 7, however, I may have found a solution. You right-click on your music and go to its properties. You go to "Details" (for me, it’s the 3rd tab) and don’t click on "Title" or "Subtitle", it won't change anything. You just need to hover your mouse next to "Title" or "Subtitle" or "Album" or anything else to change it directly. I don't think anything has changed...
but not for all mp3s, some remain empty of information... and there's no possibility to modify
anyone... mystery???
There must be some kind of DRM protection?
For me, on Windows 8.1:
First of all, the .mp3 file must not be playing. You need to either close the player being used or listen to another track.
Then, file properties of the mp3, uncheck 'Read Only', click Apply then Ok.
Go back to the properties. The fields that were previously unavailable in the "Details" tab should now be available.
Furthermore, in Details, I can't access anything!
I just made audio recordings for the dubbing of my videos where I placed a comment for each file to facilitate searching. The comment does not appear in the W7 File Manager! Everything is empty in Details except for the File section.
