Hello,
I would like to play with my old PC games. However, they are compatible with Windows 98. And there are issues even with Windows XP. So I need to install Windows 98.
But I don't want to erase my Windows 7 64-bit. So I want to install it and have the choice between the two operating systems at startup of my PC.
How do we install Windows 98 alongside Windows 7 64-bit when Windows 7 is already installed?
Thank you.

In fact, I'm afraid it will lag heavily if it's used with a virtualization software, so is it possible to set it up in dual boot with Windows 7 64-bit?
Thanks
Thanks
On a new PC with Win7, it’s difficult if not impossible to install Win98, as no hardware drivers are supported for that old system.
Get yourself an old PC and you’ll be able to play with your old games.

Alright,
well, I'm going to go for the installation on a virtual machine, I hope I won't have any hardware conflicts..
I downloaded VirtualBox
I don't know the software at all, can someone give me the main steps to install Windows 98 on this thing? Or a tutorial with links would be fine, I think..
Thanks

Personally, I think VirtualBox is very good and complete...
Here's a video that shows you with nice music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2Dg6dfOWI8
Otherwise, a text version: https://openclassrooms.com/fr/courses

Thank you for the tip! It works!
However, my Win98 CD is damaged and to avoid breaking my drive, I decided to use a Win98 ISO I found online. But when I load it into Daemon Tools and try to start it from there, I get the following error message: FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted.
Is there a setting I need to adjust in VirtualBox or in Daemon Tools so I can boot directly from my ISO?
Thanks!

Ah, what a waste! Lol, but if I burn it, is it okay? But since it's a boot CD, is there a special way to burn it so that it boots correctly? I'm going to use the software UltraISO
Thanks.
Thanks.
I found an old Win 98 CD that I had pirated back in the day, hehe. It is very damaged... I'm turning it into an ISO, so I'll see if it's the ISO image that was created by a novice...
I decided to install Windows XP. Well, I hope my games will be compatible since they required a 32-bit system. And the CD was detected, so it was really a problem with the ISO.
Thanks to everyone.

Hello,
I’m bumping this topic to say that I found a Windows XP and I managed to set it up in dual boot with my Windows 7 thanks to this link: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html
And as for virtualization, it’s UGLY! UGLY UGLY UGLY! Well, it might be good for testing and that kind of stuff, but not for gaming. Especially since I have a Celeron laptop...
Now I have my Windows 98. I installed EasyBCD on my Windows XP for the dual boot... I just need to know if the installation step is the same as with Windows XP. I want to make sure I don’t mess anything up! So basically, I want a Triple Boot.
Is it possible? If so, how... I want my Windows 98 to install my old games... so much simpler in the end...
Thanks

Well, I actually found a link that explains how to do it:
http://ww11.thpc.info/dual/win7/install_9x_on_win7.html
There's nothing visual like in my other links... I don't really see what the difference is between the installation of Windows 98 or XP... It seems like there's something more I need to do, but I don't know what...

Thank you for the response
There is still a bit of plug and play at a minimum since it's the SE version.
The problem is that the guide is in English and there is a bit of manipulation to do... a bit more than with XP because that was ultra easy. So if there is a guide in French for multi-boot and if possible with visual instructions, that would be welcome. Or if someone could summarize the main steps for me, that would be great.
(Well, I can summarize or I don’t quite understand here in this parenthesis. Basically, when I install Windows 98 SE, will it boot automatically onto it without me selecting a system, or will I have to activate it manually in EasyBCD from my Windows XP? I don’t want to be stuck with Windows 98 as the only boot...)
Thank you

google translate is your friend ;)
basically, if we believe what is said (what I understood anyway), Windows 98 will format the disk (so you will lose everything that hasn't been saved), and it's only by reinstalling Windows XP (via EBCD) that you will benefit from dual boot.
then you will be able to (I think, without certainty) restore your data through the Windows tool.

Hello,
Before complicating your life, have you tried right-clicking on the program to install, properties, compatibility tab, and checked "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 98"? :)
Best regards,
Sherraff

Hello,
to get started, install this software;
Then create a new machine (you'll understand once you've installed it)...
Select the right system and name the machine!
Find your old CDs once the setup is complete...
And launch your machine, put in the right CDs, etc;;; Just like on a real PC!
And keep us updated!
