Startup issue with error 2000 0142

Hello,

I am having a problem with a Dell computer running Windows 7.

During startup, it crashes within 5 seconds.
I am stuck with the choice to start normally or start with repair.
There’s no way to boot in safe mode... or any other mode either.

When running a diagnostic, the error code 2000 0142 appears. It seems, based on my research, that it might be the hard drive.

I can't reinstall Windows or the drivers.

Do you have a solution to propose, knowing that I am not familiar with the BIOS and have never opened up a computer?

Thank you for your help.

    Hello,
This is the first time I'm posting a message. I have exactly the same problem as "38vero". Should I buy another HDD? Can you please help me? Thank you.

    Good evening,

I'm having trouble reinstalling Windows with the OS. However, on another computer, I created a system image.
Is it possible to use this image on the computer that has a problem?
Or will Windows 7 block it because it is already installed on one machine?

Will it be possible to reinstall this backup image a second time on the computer that was used to create this backup, in case it has a problem?

    Thank you for your answers.
    Have a good evening.

    Hi,

Insert your OS disk into your CD/DVD drive. As the machine starts, there should be an option to hit F2 or F12. Press the F12 key. This will give you the option of where to boot your machine from. Select boot from the CD/DVD drive. For me, Windows loaded some files and gave me the option to either install Windows or repair it. I chose repair, and then it asked me for the admin password - I typed it in.?? It takes you to a command prompt: Type CHKDSK or type CHKDSK / R. Press the ENTER key. Once your machine is finished and the hard disk has been repaired, type exit and press ENTER to restart your laptop. PRESTO, THE STUPID DELL LAPTOP NOW BOOTS UP AND HAS ALL ITS DATA BACKED UP.
