Hello,
Here is a technical communication from RIM (email received from a sales representative at Orange), translated from English:
- There was a known issue with the 9900 Bold: the phone appears "dead," does not turn on, does not charge... This issue was not limited to a single country.
- RIM released and approved a new firmware in December that would fix these issues. SW version 7.0.0.585 (Bundle 2406).
- This version is available automatically through the Desktop Manager or available here for example.
- In some cases, the defective phone can be recovered by removing the battery, installing the update via the Desktop Manager, but not always!
- If the mobile does not reboot after this procedure, it must be taken to the technical service for repair or replacement.

The deployment of the new firmware as soon as the phone is received seems to make the phone work better, yes...
I have already managed to get 2 defective phones to work again by:
- Updating it (even after the phone has crashed)
- Charging the phone again on the PC for a few minutes and then unplugging the cable.

It happened to me after giving it to the user (a few days of use).
You need to reconnect it, it should suggest a firmware update.
The installation fixes this problem.
I have another phone that had a very strange issue: barely out of the box (it doesn’t get any newer than that), I turn it on and realize that after powering it up, the middle "wheel" malfunctions: it goes down and then goes back up on its own!!! You can even put the phone on the table, and when it starts to glitch, the cursor moves really on its own without doing anything (without a shadow, ...).
A firmware update resolved the issue as well.
The latest updates are normally fine.
However, some users are complaining about battery life.
The phones coming out now are fixed of all these problems natively.
We should hear less about the BB Bold 9900 issues (except maybe for the battery life).

I managed to restart two phones by doing this:
/!\ After this operation, the phone is then wiped (reset) except for the micro SD card) /!\ But a reset phone is better than a phone that doesn't work at all....!
- Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager (Make sure the software is up to date)
- Connect the phone to the PC
- Update when the software prompts you to (even if the phone is off and the red LED is on, it prompts you)
- At some point, the update fails (saying that the PC can no longer communicate with the phone.
At that moment, try clicking "Retry" several times, unplug the phone and plug it back in!
You really need to insist and not quit the update.

Me too, it does that to me, but even when removing the battery, it doesn't turn on... it's already gone to customer service, and I regret investing in a piece of junk phone.
Leave it plugged in for 5 minutes and press the button to turn it on, otherwise try removing the battery and putting it back in and see if it works.. I hope I helped you. :-)
I have the same problem even though my Bold is not even a month old... It was discharged but still on, I plugged it in and since then it won't turn on except for the blinking red light, and I've tried everything!!!! I removed the battery, put it back in, pressed everywhere, nothing works except for that blinking red light...... if someone can help me that would be great, thanks ;)
I remove the battery and it works again, but it's already happened twice in less than a month of use.
This is really not normal!!!!!!

Hello,
Yesterday, the battery of a phone purchased a month ago but used for the first time:
- Battery charged overnight (100%)
- WiFi and Bluetooth turned off
- Screen brightness at minimum
- In the morning, checked one or two emails, no other use. The phone remained on the table
From 6:30 AM to 10 AM, the battery dropped from 100% to 40%!!!
Now I just need to check if the phone is always on 3G...
Other problems arise with users such as:
- suddenly losing the network (like in a tunnel) => it doesn't reconnect to the network by itself without restarting the phone.
The battery of the 9900 is a hot topic!

Have you downloaded any apps? Often, some of them short-circuit the battery; I know a bit about that. In the morning, impossible to turn it back on. Remove the battery and put it back. Plug your BB in. Press the red phone button for several seconds; it should turn back on, let it recharge. Don't forget to uninstall the last app you installed. Good luck!
I had the same thing happen to me, but after 3 months it got stuck on the internet page, so I went to Orange and they told me that it was messed up, but I could still use the SIM card!!!!!! Change the phone or else claim it at Orange or where you bought it.
Hello, I had the same issue with the indicator! In the morning everything was fine, and by noon when I took it out of the case it was flashing red, black screen, phone very hot, battery very hot!!! What is this due to?? I think there's a communication problem between the software of the 9900 and the battery completely draining it. I removed the battery from the phone, waited for the logo indicating there was no battery to appear, and a few minutes later I put the battery back in. The phone restarted and since then no more issues... However, it's true that the battery life isn't great, but oh well...
Good luck to everyone ;)

Hello
I charged my phone, and after 30 minutes when I went to pick it up, the screen had turned white with pink stripes. Can you please help me? I need assistance as I have all my family photos and very important documents. Please help me. Thank you.
P.S.: It's a BB Bold 9780.

Hello, I'm experiencing the same problem with my BlackBerry that won't turn on after a night of charging (even though it was on the night before). I've tried everything, but it still refuses to turn on, and it won't connect to a computer (as soon as the LED turns off, it disconnects). If anyone has an idea... thanks.

I had the same problem. When I called customer service, they changed it for me right away, without too many questions. It's a common issue with the 9900.
You need to start WITHOUT the battery and as soon as the installation begins, PUT IT BACK.
I had the same problem but I managed to fix it..
However, I can't change the language on my Curve 8520 (version 5.0.0.592)
When I click on the application section of BB Desktop Software, nothing appears..
