Desktop alert message
Solved
Hello,
When I turn on my PC (Dell Optiplex 990) I get an error message that says:
<ALERT FONT I/O CABLE FAILURE.
I then have the option, and by pressing F1, my computer starts normally.
What does this alert message mean?
Thank you for your responses.
Patrick

Hello
Well, it gives you the message at startup, while the PC is testing the connected hardware (in working order), and apparently, one piece of hardware isn’t functioning quite right; it only responds halfway.
Now, it does not tell us which one. What I recommend is to start by disconnecting everything that is connected to your PC and turning it on. If the message disappears (which would surprise me), then we know where the problem is coming from.
If the message is still there, then it’s inside; open your PC and check if all the cables are properly connected: feel free to unplug and replug them to ensure good connections.
We’ll see what next.

Hello,
the message from the P.O.S.T. (power on self test) should have been "Alert Front I/O Cable Failure"
which literally translates to "Alert Front Input/Output Cable Failure"
this probably referred to the input/output panel, see page 43 of the manual:
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/op990/en/SM/MT/SM_MT_en.pdf
by unplugging and replugging the cables, you have probably eliminated the loose connection
The approach provided by Dr. Zero was the right one, I'm just providing the link to the manual for your information (with the photos, it's simpler).
Have a nice day, best regards, Jean-Marc
