Hello,

I wanted to update iTunes 10.5 this evening, but I'm encountering a problem during the installation. I get the following error message:

"An error occurred during the installation of the Microsoft assembly. VOC80.CRT, type="win32"; version=..." Followed by a series of numbers and letters that are beyond my (limited) computer skills.

I tried downloading iTunes directly from the Apple website, but I still encounter the same problem.

Do you have a solution to resolve this?

Thank you.

Configuration: Windows Vista / Safari 535.1

Go to the control panel, click on "Programs and Features," then right-click on the program "Apple Software Update" and select "Repair" from the list that appears. Your program will automatically be repaired, after which you can simply restart the iTunes update installation.

Thank you for your reply, but this manipulation is among those already attempted and the same problem persists, and on top of that, Apple Device Support doesn't install either :-/
It's a real headache and it's not for lack of trying every day without results :(

I am reassured to see that I'm not the only one... the same problem for everyone, even though some people are able to install it without any difficulty...

Hello, hello,
I also cannot install iTunes 10.5 on my Windows, but my error message is different;
"A problem occurred with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this installation could not be executed. Contact your support service or the package distributor."

Do you have a solution?
Thank you in advance!

Hello again.
I removed iTunes from my PC.
I re-downloaded it from a site that has already
had 34,471 downloads.
I thought: with all these downloads, it should work now.
Well, no, the bug is still there.
If I understand correctly, there are only about ten of us having problems with iTunes.

Hello, what have I done:
Well, I don't recommend it, I got upset the whole night.
Here it is:
I deleted iTunes from my PC, even the stuff that was in the subdirectories.
But before that, I copied all my music and apps onto CDs. You never know, I didn't want to lose everything.
I also deleted Safari and QuickTime Player.
Then I downloaded iTunes 10.3
But then my iPod didn't work anymore when I connected it to iTunes.
iTunes told me: your iPod is of a higher version.
So I tried to restore my iPod to the original setting.
But I couldn't do it.
I got really angry, I was ready to throw my PC out the window.
Since I'm useless, I reinstalled iTunes 10.5 knowing it didn't work.
In the end, I had no choice.
And yesterday, I turned on my PC and saw on my screen that there was an iTunes 10.5.1 update
I downloaded it and everything went back to normal. Phew.

PS: there's something I don't understand.
We have 2 computers connected to the same modem.
I have Windows 7 - yesterday iTunes offered me an update.
My friend has Windows XP and iTunes hasn't offered him an update yet.
Why?

Well, I wish you a lot of courage and luck.

Good evening.

Hello,

I have the same issue, on Windows 7 32-bit when loading iTunes 10.5 with the following message:
An error occurred during the installation of the assembly "Microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32".version="8.0.50727.6195".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b".processorArchitecture="x86"; Refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80073712.

I contacted Apple: they claim it's a Microsoft error.
I then contacted Microsoft who... claims it's an Apple problem!
Thanks a lot to both, I've made a lot of progress.

While looking a bit into what the various codes in the message mean, I found out that they seem related to an issue with the security update for Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable. It did not install or was installed incorrectly. I spent hours trying to load it manually without success.
It seems there are 3 versions:
- one from 04/10/2006
- a SP1 from 11/15/2007 that replaces the previous one before installing
- an update from 07/28/2009 that replaces the previous version before attempting to install but fails with the message: Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of the assembly "Microsoft.VC80.MFC,type= "win32",version= "8.0.50727.4053",publicKeyToken= "1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture= "x86", type= "win32"

That's a lot of messages I don't understand much about and I'm not any further along.

But at least, during all the time I spent searching, I haven't spoken ill of my neighbor...

If anyone finds the solution...

Thank you in advance.

I have exactly the same problem as you, I went to get my iPhone fixed at the Apple Store in Bordeaux and they installed the new update, so I have to download iTunes 10.5 to activate iCloud, etc...
But the thing is, I can't download iTunes, I've uninstalled everything and nothing works, I can't download any version of iTunes, not even Safari, etc. It's a real headache, so I'd like to get out of this because it's really frustrating!
What a mess!

Hello,

I found nothing else but to reinstall Windows 7, update all the drivers, the computer's BIOS, and recover everything (documents, programs, profiles)...
It's risky (you always lose a few things), very long (a good day), but it works!
I now have iTunes 10.5.
I think Windows updates hadn't installed correctly before. Or that the BIOS wasn't up to date.

Good luck!

I'm installing iTunes and a first message appears:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft.VC80.CRT, version="8.0.50727.4053", type="win32", publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b", processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT = 0x80070002.

At the end of the installation, when iTunes opens, a second message appears:

This iPhone cannot be used because the necessary software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.

Whether I install the 64-bit version or not, it makes no difference. Has anyone found a solution?

Abandoning your Paleolithic Computer to acquire an Apple computer running on a dedicated Apple OS, all to install an Apple software? What a ridiculous idea, my dear! It might actually work a bit too well for once!

The solution is there (at least for me) but total control should be on users and not on administrators (in my case)

Good evening;
I also have a problem with iTunes.
This morning I installed the latest version of iTunes 10.5.

I get an error when I select Help.

The error is:
"The requested URL / itunes/win/10.5 / .was not found on this d

Apache /2.2.3 (oracle) Server at help. Port 80

Please, what should I do? What does this sentence mean?
Thank you for your help.

Otherwise, there is an alternative to iTunes which is
https://fr.copytrans.net/copytransmanager/

Free and just as good...
Very easy to use as well.

I used CopyTrans, but when I try to install the drivers for iTunes as recommended by CopyTrans at the end of the download and installation, I get an error message and it doesn't resolve the problem.

Hello,
I also have the same problem and I don't know what to do...
I've tried everything, I installed CC Cleaner to clean my computer, I updated Windows and I had the same issue with Visual C++ that won't update...

Is there anyone who can finally help us???

Thank you in advance!

Hello,
So the update is installed, but when I listen to a downloaded track, it crackles (as if it's a sound card problem, but it's not because it works fine with other players) and the tracks imported from a CD sound good??!!?!

Hi, the issue referenced in this topic concerns the installation problem that many of us are facing. I think this installation issue is more concerning than a sound card driver that doesn't work and distorts the sound.
Politeness and proper French are welcome.
Thank you

Well, here’s another one in the community. I thought I was alone in the world, but in fact, there are several of us on this little island that is iTunes 10.5 not installed. I even posted under the following link...

https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-23437273-probleme-installation-itunes-version-10-5#p23490989

I have the same issue with a Windows update that won't install and that I think is blocking iTunes somehow....

Looking forward to a patch from Microsoft or Apple.... (^^)

Hello! I use Windows 7 32-bit and I can't install iTunes 10.5 either. The message that appears says: "The system administrator has set policies on your system to prevent this installation." What should I do, please???

Hello, you need to right-click on the iTunes icon, then go to "Properties," then the "Compatibility" tab, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for," and select Windows 7. On the same tab, also check "Run this program as an administrator." Click "OK."
Open iTunes, check for updates, and this time it should work. See you!
