How to change a com port number?

Hello everyone, I’m going to try to be explanatory, here’s the thing: I have an issue with my USB to RS232 cable. I’m using this cable connected to my PC as well as to the satellite demodulator to update its firmware. In fact, my flashing software does not recognize the COM port since it goes from COM port 1 to COM port 4, and apparently my cable is sending on COM port 6 (according to tests with other software). How can I change the port number in Windows XP so that it can finally communicate with my flashing software on the chosen port???
Thank you in advance!!!

Good evening,

There is an order but I can no longer get the neuron back on it.

However, you can do it by teasing the mouse.
- right-click on "My Computer" then "Properties"
- tab "Hardware" then button "Device Manager"
- scroll down to Ports (COM and LPT) and expand the line by clicking on the "+"
- right-click then "Properties" on the COM port that interests you
- tab "Settings" then button "Advanced"
- there you can change the port number

Of course, if you plan to use an existing port, you will first need to rename it before assigning the new one..

To change the COM port numbers in Windows 7:
You need to go to Control Panel => Audio Hardware => Device Manager => double click on Modem => left click on the name of your modem => Properties => Advanced tab => Advanced port settings => COM port number

Good luck :)
