Mac turning off when connecting the iPhone

Hello,

I have an iPhone 3GS that I sync with a MacBook Pro. For the past few days, when I try to connect the iPhone to the Mac, it is not detected by iTunes on one of the two ports (it charges but nothing more), and on the other port, the computer shuts down suddenly.
I don't understand where this could come from, especially since there are no issues on my desktop computer running Windows 7.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Configuration: Mac OS X / Safari 534.50

    Hello,

A short circuit at the level of the USB cable used or the USB connector of the Mac could explain the phenomenon.

I have exactly the same problem with my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4S. As soon as I plug it into the USB port above the card reader, the Mac shuts down! Yesterday I tried to connect it again, but the Mac was connected to the battery, which caused an electric shock and it wouldn't turn back on. Today I went to change the MacBook and the store gave me a new one... but it's still the same. I just tried again, but the MacBook was not connected to its battery, so it turned back on, thankfully! But still, it's really annoying... and I have no idea why this is happening! :(

Hello, I have the same problem. As soon as I plug in my iPhone 5, my 13.3-inch MacBook Pro shuts down and I can't turn it back on for more than 2 DAYS. But the cable for my iPhone is not Apple certified; could it create some kind of shock that turns everything off???
    P.S.: If I'm not well-informed, it's just because I'm 13 years old.

    Hello,

You need to try with a genuine Apple-branded cable.
