Connect the KIRRIO GPS antenna to the laptop.

Is it possible to connect my Kirrio GPS antenna (supplied with the PDA PALM tugnsten E + via Michelin package) to my TOSHIBA laptop (via the USB port)?
Where can I get the necessary accessories?

    It's all good, my laptop is now serving as my GPS thanks to the ViaMichelin software.

      Which version of viamichelin (2, 3, 4, or the latest one, 5)
      Which version of Windows (XP or Vista)

      Apparently, Michelin confirmed to me, but well,
      it's only compatible with PDAs or standalone GPS devices, PPC (PocketPC or Palm)

      Can you confirm that we can install it directly on a laptop?

    I have the same question. Some time ago, I bought a Kirrio GPS for my Palm M130, and I would like to connect it to my Toshiba laptop or another laptop. The software provided was MapView (with TeleAtlas maps). It works well on my PC and has a GPS position detection feature.

    However, this GPS is not USB, but has a connector that looks like a PS2 (but reversed). Can someone please help me?

    a little correction, indeed there is a connection that allows you to plug this GPS in via USB, I never paid attention to that. I will try if it works.

    I am looking for the same thing as you, to connect my Kirrio GPS head to a laptop, either on Windows or Linux.
    The plug looks like a PS2 but connects to the USB port of a Palm, so it must be USB protocol.

    I just received an email from someone who connected their GPS to their computer via the SERIAL port.

      Hello,

      I had the same problem

      I was able to simulate the serial port over USB using a driver included in Win_USB_Driver_Installer.exe from Prolific Technology Inc.

      Depending on the micro, the emulated port was COM3 or COM5. To find out, you have to go to the hardware config, go to the COM ports... it is possible to change.

      Warning: I was surprised to see that it didn't work anymore if I plugged a USB stick into it: I had to troubleshoot and restart the driver.

        Hello,

        To emulate a USB port as a serial port and be able to use a USB GPS receiver, here’s how I proceeded:

        You need to download the software, for example here:
        http://www.usglobalsat.com/downloads/Win_USB_Driver_Installer.exe

        On WinXP:
        - launch the program
        - connect the GPS
        - make sure that the driver has been found
        - adjust the properties of the USB-to-Serial Comm Port if necessary
        - the advanced properties allow you to choose the Comm, Comm5 for example

        By going to control panel > hardware, you should find in the comm & LPT ports the number of the comm port used (indicated in parentheses).

    I would like to know if, in the end, anyone has managed to connect the GPS to a phone running XP via the USB port without making the PC dependent on the GPS (the issue of the USB key causing a failure!). If so, what pathway and what connections were used? Thank you in advance.

    Hello everyone

    I tried the manipulation above, but I cut the GPS cable at the mini USB connector to replace it with a regular USB to connect it to my laptop (I tried both connections: white to white and green to green, then vice versa). Result: nothing is recognized, but the GPS diode is blinking. The computer does not emit any warning about the presence of a new device. I had, of course, installed the win_usb_driver software mentioned above.

    I don't want to invest in a serial-to-USB converter, even though there is a cable that could make our Kirrio GPS work on USB:

      I apologize for resurrecting this post, but I just got a Kirrio BR-306 GPS and I'm facing the same problems as you!
      First of all, I want to congratulate Guizmo for his site, which is super clear for carrying out the setup, but (unfortunately, there's always a but) I don't know if it needs software or a driver to work.
      Secondly, I would like to take the tracks of some roads in order to export them to Google Earth; is that possible or not, in your opinion?

    I've successfully connected the GPS to the serial port, it's working well, but I would like to connect it to the PC via USB only: finding a serial port on current laptops is like a miracle...

    Anyway, if anyone has managed to do this via USB, feel free to post here.

    The KIRRIO GPS is Bluetooth; you just need to connect a Bluetooth USB key to your phone or PC and it works. The GPS recognition is done with Via Michelin.

    Hello,

    I have a Palm One "ZIRE 31" with a GPS and a KIRRIO GPS antenna that was working very well until now;
    Recently, I have been unable to use my GPS on my Palm (no GPS recognition, and the indicator light on the KIRRIO GPS antenna is dimmer than before (weak red light).

    Thank you for responding if there is a solution, as I am unable to find the site that could help me

    PS I tried the PALM ONE support and www.kirrio.com to no avail.
