Hello,
After a false manipulation (unknown key combination probably constituting a keyboard shortcut), the backspace and left SHIFT keys no longer work (the right SHIFT key works!)
This happens in all software (IE, Office, etc.) and is very annoying, especially for the backspace key, which has no equivalent. I've tried sticky keys, the tools menu in Word, nothing works.
For your information: I have a notebook, Windows XP pack 3, IE version 8, and Office 2007.
Does anyone have an idea that I haven't thought of yet???

I don't think it's due to a mishandling, except for maybe some liquid spilled on it.
Are the keys also inactive when starting Windows?
To find out, you need to press the F8 key when the PC starts up to try to access the Safe Mode menu, and then choose Safe Mode with Networking, and press Enter.
If it works well, meaning that if the loading begins before the countdown reaches 0, then the problem comes from Windows or perhaps a virus or spyware, which means a cleanup might be necessary on the virus/security forum, which can be found on this same page at the top of the forum list.
If it doesn't work, the only option I see is disassembling it to remove and then reinsert the keyboard ribbon cable, but depending on the laptop models, it can be either very easy or not simple at all.
I don't see anything else that could cause this problem, but just give it a try.

Actually, what makes me think of a false manipulation is that it was working perfectly until the night before last. Yesterday morning, I used the computer before I was fully awake, pressing keys without really looking at them, and it's been like that since...
Really no idea of any false manipulation that could have caused this?

Just so you know, the F5 key isn't working either, and that's the first one I press (or try to press...) in the morning after waking the laptop from sleep mode, to refresh my email page... Could the problem be due to that? Could I have pressed F5 and something else at the same time, or on a key close to F5 instead?
