Hello,
I just received 3 identical text messages from the number +33987390573 with the message:
"Happy New Year 2008 and everything else..." (Oh, I just received the same message again while I was writing, so that makes 4.)
I would like to know if you know where this is coming from and how to stop it because I feel like I will be receiving more....

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 3.6.17

Look in your messaging settings on your phone, and look for an option called "blocked numbers." Enter the number that's sending you spam texts, confirm it, and there you go!

Unfortunately, I have already checked and I can't block numbers on my phone; it's an old Nokia and it requires a pin2 code that I've never known (0000 doesn't work).

No, it's a scam... people are meant to believe that it's someone from their circle sending them the text, and are therefore supposed to respond... to a premium-rate number!

Good evening,

Of course, the texts are not sent to look nice, but as you said, for people to call a premium rate number to see who wishes them a happy new year when it's not even New Year's.
Never respond to this kind of thing and don’t leave your mobile number all over the place.

We cannot prevent these SMS from reaching the operator's servers, which then transmits them to the concerned mobile, but we can prevent the phone from retrieving them... and I mentioned how to do that in my previous post!

me on my phone, like him, I'm not able to block numbers...and yes, not everyone is lucky enough to show off with the latest "phones".....QED.

Same. I keep getting the message "Happy New Year 2008 and all that" from +33 987 116 826.

What I notice is that as soon as I decide to read it, they send me double 3 minutes later.

So don’t open it to read it. It seems to be calming down.

Hello, here's a number to add to the list, I received exactly the same SMS as you but from the number 0987644694.

I'm leaving it in the comments because I couldn't find any information about this number on the internet. :)

Otherwise, to get rid of it, I sent STOP to this number... I had received 6 in less than an hour. According to French law, they have to stop sending you messages and, moreover, responding with this is not charged. There you go!

Same here, I've received it 5 or 6 times from the number 0987946259 and I didn't answer, I couldn't find more information on the net either except for this forum, and that's good! Even on your mobile phone, you can't be at ease.
