Hello,

I would like to physically remove/disable a RAM module soldered to the motherboard, as the RAM is defective. How can I do this? Thank you.

You are asked whether it is a laptop or a desktop computer.

I am going to desolder the power pins of the flash chips on the RAM soldered on the motherboard, a good idea?

I think there’s surely a way to disable the RAM without removing it.. you risk blowing your board trying to take it out..

Too late, I took action. At first my PC wouldn’t boot, but by carefully wiggling the legs that were left on the motherboard, my PC restarted, and now I’m running MemTest to make sure I don’t have any defective RAM left. Because yes, my onboard RAM is no longer detected, it’s like a hardware disable in a way ;) I only removed a flash chip on one side of the board, and the one that was on the other side. So removing 2 chips out of 8 is enough. Maybe only one would have been enough, but I did two… So there you have it, I’ll keep you posted if this solves my kernel panic problem. I can’t help but shout Victory anyway!!
