Hello,

I have encountered a problem for which I haven't found an answer.

It concerns lines that seem to be created using the Word function
After typing --- a complete line is installed.
Usually, this line can be removed using the Borders and Shading menu
We can find it in the AutoFormat options and there too it's impossible to delete
What strikes me is that when there are two lines, for example on the attached sheet, by selecting both lines, through the Borders menu one of the two lines disappears without any problem
Could someone shed some light on this for me?

Hello Mike,

[Here is a response from the Microsoft answers forum http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officewordfr/thread/81715fc5-f0d0-4c29-be38-14f58bb72bd6]

The line corresponds to the bottom border of the paragraph in which you inserted it. To remove the line, you can change the page formatting.

To do this, in Word 2007, click next to the line, click on Page Layout, Page Borders in the Page Background group, and then click on the Borders tab and select None under Setting.

In Word 2003, click next to the line, click on Format, Borders and Shading, and then select None under Setting in the Borders tab.

You may need to perform this operation on multiple paragraphs before permanently removing the line. Indeed, if several consecutive paragraphs are formatted with a bottom border, it only appears on the last paragraph. Thus, the formatting shifts to the next paragraph as soon as you reformat the one below.

You can disable this "helpful feature" if you do not want to create a line every time you type three dashes and press ENTER. To do this, in Word 2007, click on the Office Button, Word Options, Proofing, AutoCorrect Options, click on the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and then uncheck the Borders checkbox under Apply.

In Word 2003, click on Tools, AutoCorrect Options, click on the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and then uncheck the Borders checkbox under Apply.

It is true that we often struggle to remove this line!!
Often, when there are two lines, they move instead of disappearing when we use borders and shading.
When possible, as in your document, I use another method. To spot where the style begins, I display the style dialog box, show non-printing characters, and look line by line where the style begins, which often has a name like in your document, for example Justified, Bottom, Automatic. It is the word Automatic that is important here in the name of the style.
Once I have spotted it, I go to borders and shading, and even if None is displayed, I click on it.
And if it really resists, or if there is no specific style, at worst, we can set the entire section or a large section before and after the lines to normal style, and just redo some formatting. But the first solution works well!!

I hope this answers your question.
Have a nice Sunday Mike
