Hello, Jeff (I suppose) had moved my message (below) to the hardware forum, but I'm not sure if the problem comes from there :(
So I'm not sure where to post my question, so I'm putting it in the miscellaneous forum.
I'm forwarding my message and the help I received from Castor in the hope that someone can help me.
/* Here is the message I posted and the response from Castor */
I have a problem with my USB ports, they no longer detect anything at all when I connect a device using the USB port.
So I looked in the control panel/system and I checked the device manager tab and then I see an exclamation mark on "PCI to USB Universal Host Controller Intel 82371AB/EB".
I click on it and here is what it says:
***********************************
Device Status:
The NTKERN.VXD device drivers for this device could not load the device driver.
(code 2)
***********************************
Could someone help me get my USB ports working again please?
I've read the problem of Flogoubs and I have the impression that VXD is taking over us :\
Thank you for your help
Frank77, who is having so many problems at night, sniff :'(

Uh, VXD problems are common under Windows :)
First, check that ntkern.vxd is present in windows/system.
Then, retrieve it from the Windows CD (it's in one of the .cab files, but I don't remember which one...
Then replace your ntkern with that one, and it should work..

Hi everyone,
I did what you told me, indeed I didn't have (or no longer?) this NTKERN.VXD file in windows/system, I went to find it in a win98_50 file and put it back, I rebooted but still the same problem :((
Just a note, this problem occurred after I installed the drivers for my USB webcam :/
I did a search on Google, and other people had the same problem except that it was after doing an "upgrade from win98 to millennium".
Here is the link where other people had this problem:

If anyone has an idea, that would be super nice :)
Thank you all

Personally, I had the same problem; here’s what I did:
I searched for the solution for 15 days and then I just enabled/disabled the USB thing in the device manager!!
It worked for me but not for my cousin (he's changed his PC since).
There you go, hoping this is the solution to your problem ^^
See you later.

Hi, thank you for your help, but you know I've already tried doing that and it still doesn't work. I was told, however, to completely uninstall Windows and then reinstall it because it's due to a bad installation, but I'm not really sure how to do that. My computer is still under warranty, so I'm going to take it back. Thanks and see you soon.
