HP Photosmart printing issue

Hello,
I need help from someone who knows how to tame temperamental printers.
I bought an HP Photosmart B109a-m printer less than a month ago. It came with half-empty trial cartridges. So from the start, I decided to change the black cartridge (since that's the one I use the most) and I put in an XL (since that's one of the advantages of this printer)... until today, I had no reason to complain....
But suddenly, the printer won't print anything in black; the color cartridges were highlighted with a WARNING logo indicating I needed to change the cartridges (which I did), but the printer still won't print in black... it prints light gray, dark gray, or nothing at all (it makes noise, but leaves no mark on my paper)... I dutifully followed HP's instructions (cleaning the heads, aligning the heads, checking the ventilation of my cartridge) to no avail...
Has anyone had the same problem as me??? Any advice would be welcome (I urgently need to print my resume and cover letter!!!!)
Thanks
Morgane

Hello,
I have the same issue with the same printer. It worked perfectly for several months, then after changing the black cartridge (this is not our first change, always with the same type of XL cartridge), it's no longer printing in black. It just prints nice blank pages when I print black text on white. Quite annoying... However, the colors are still working.
Could someone help us, please?
Thank you
Laurent

Hello everyone
How sad it is to see that a good number of users have the same apparently unsolvable problem.
I’m adding my voice to your posts because for me too, it’s impossible to replace an HP 364XL cartridge with a supposedly compatible HP 364XL photo.
So I won’t be able to provide you with a solution, but on the other hand, I encourage you to boycott the HP brand, which really doesn’t care about consumers and whose customer service is truly appalling.
I’m fed up with getting ripped off by this kind of company.
There you go, that was my rant!!!

Hello
compatible HP cartridges are more expensive and don't always work. Instead, consider Epson; the cartridges are half the price. See T3 azu.... I notice that your message is from 2011. The site should have erased the old messages by now. I think you have resolved the issue by now. But it can still be useful. Happy printing!

It doesn't work... Steam cleaning of the nozzles (I think I made a mistake at the same time :-/), cleaning the cartridges with a cotton swab, using tweezers to clean any possible "cotton hairs", in short, a complete cleaning even behind the nozzles (copper part) => Here is the error according to the HP site....
How to remove the print heads (the casing) from a Photosmart printer to try the steam cleaning method??
Thank you for your responses.

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem with my HP Photosmart B109 wifi.
I bought ink cartridges thinking that the ink level was insufficient, and after many head cleanings, I still get the same bitter result... Everything prints except for black! Or just a bit of light gray... As if everything was fine except that the ink isn't coming out.
It's really incomprehensible...
I see that the post is marked as resolved, but where is the solution????
Thank you
Stéphan

Good evening, I had the same problem, I came to the forum to see the proposed solutions, and I wanted to let you know that it works! I removed the cartridges, then the print head by lifting the little lever, I spent a few minutes running the print head under lukewarm water, all the ink residues washed away, I wiped the print head with a paper towel, then gently dried it with a hairdryer. I replaced the print head and then the ink cartridges, the printer automatically went through a 5-minute preparation and aligned the cartridges.
The printer finally works!
Thank you very much for these solutions ;)

Can you explain how to access the print heads on my HP Photosmart C4580 printer? If I understand correctly, they are not located on the cartridge? I would like to perform this cleaning procedure because ever since I installed my new cartridge, it doesn't work and only blank pages are coming out.
Thank you in advance!

I have the same problem as all of you; but I don't know how to remove the cartridge to clean the print heads; can you please let me know.
Thank you in advance.

same problem: blank page after cartridge change.
solution:
printhead cleaning:
-hp solution center
-settings
-printer toolbox
-clean printheads x2
it worked for me.

I was thinking about buying a new printer... because no matter what, even after changing the cartridges and cleaning the heads several times... still no black!
Finally, after running the head under hot water and carefully drying it and cleaning the head again (3 times), everything works again....
They could mention that at HP... grrr

I found the solution! For my part, it's an HP psc 1210.
Impossible to find the cleaning procedure for the print heads on the HP site.
Apparently, it's automatic...
Anyway, my printer was printing light gray with a bit of black: clogged nozzles.
You need to remove the cartridge and clean the print head with steam.
Boiling water: I held my print head above the steam for 1 to 2 minutes, dried it with paper towel, and miracle.
Immediate unclogging: it works.

Hello,
I also have a problem with my Photosmart B109a. I've had the opportunity to change the ink cartridges, especially the black one, and until now I was always using XL black cartridges.
This time, I would like to use a standard one that has the same number (364), but it seems that the slot is only designed for the large cartridges.
Can anyone tell me if I can use the 364 XL and 364 black cartridges interchangeably? And if so, how can I do that?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello, I have an HP Photosmart C310a and I have the same problem
So I followed the advice above. I removed the cartridges, then took out the tray and washed it with warm water without fully submerging it but rinsing it under running water
The print heads are indeed located under the tray. I didn't wet the back part too much (those small square copper bits, I believe), maybe I should have????
After drying it with a paper towel, I left the tray on the radiator for 30 minutes.
When I put the tray and cartridges back in after a few minutes of initialization, I got this error message 0cx19a0013
Do you have any advice for me, please?
I may not have washed it enough, not dried it enough........

I think you should clean the print head again. I reseated the print head while the printer was on, and I got an error message saying there was no print head (even though I had just installed it). I turned the printer off and then back on, and an automatic 5-minute procedure started, followed by cartridge alignments, and it worked.
I hadn't seen your message, thank you for taking the time to reply to me.
I had thought about trying with a solvent but I couldn't find any.
So I turned my printer back on after a few days off and it seems to be working again. I no longer have any error messages.
Thank you again to those who provided the solution.

I had the same printing defect problem with a Photosmart B209 purchased less than 2 years ago
I spent 1 hour on the phone with HP's customer service (costing €20), without success
Result: I was advised to buy another printer!...
I tried steaming the print head without success.
Ultimately, I found on a forum that I needed to soak the print head for a few hours in an ink solvent found in supermarkets, and the printer works again!
Thanks to the person who provided the solution and zero points for HP, which only wants to sell its products without ensuring proper support

I have an HP Photosmart 5510 that I bought for €50 ten months ago.
The black cartridge is finished (indeed, it's printing blank in black).
So, I'm replacing the original HP 364 (which lasted only a few pages, I think :-/) with a remanufactured cartridge from a major ink specialist (given the lifespan of the original cartridge, I figure it can't be worse with a remanufactured one).
The new cartridge is in place, and nothing works; the printout remains blank!?
I've done multiple head cleanings, with no success.
Oh, and it detected that the cyan cartridge was a counterfeit!! Haha, even though it's the original cartridge that came with the printer.
Well, I'm continuing to dig into this, but it's a pain...

Hello
Photosmart B209
I thank the person who suggested removing the cradle holding the ink cartridges and washing it.
I took out the 4 cartridges 364, removed the tray after lifting the lever, washed the tray thoroughly, wiped the head, let it dry on the radiator, reassembled it, and it works perfectly.
I use cartridges purchased on eBay, and I also refill them.

Great! The solution of switching to water worked!
Of course, this happens just after the warranty period ends, as usual...
Since it was the black that wasn't printing anymore, I still had to print a few test pages, align, clean the cartridges, etc... But after 5 or 6 sheets, victory! The black is back!
Thanks to the clever ones because I would have never dared to take that risk without these messages...

Thank you for your advice, and indeed, it's the simplest method (with hot water) that works!!
End of two days of struggle trying everything, thanks again.

Hello,
like you, I have a problem with the black 364 cartridge and yesterday I was at DARTY to possibly change my printer. While talking to a young salesperson, we noticed that the new cartridges no longer have a reader (that is to say, a black dot near the chip); you might understand better by examining a color cartridge. I am waiting for news from this young man who has escalated the information. But don't throw away your printers.
Best regards

I'm having the same problem, unable to print in black but no issues with the rest...
Print head cleaning has been done and all cartridges have been replaced...
If anyone has the answer to this mystery...
In principle, do it in the evening and let it sit overnight to dry, and by the next morning, it will be as good as new.
