Unreadable new DVD

Hello everyone,
I bought a DVD from the store and what a disappointment it was when I got home. When I put it in my computer's drive, it makes an awful noise, it spins really fast, and I get a message saying it doesn't recognize the format. I don't understand, I have a DVD that I bought a long time ago and it works, but this one doesn't. I've read the box of the DVD, it has anti-copy protection and it's a dual-layer. Do you think it could be that? I tried with POWER DVD and it's the same. What worries me is that it makes a lot of noise in the drive.
Thank you to anyone who can respond.
It really bothers me to have spent money on something that doesn't work.
Configuration: windows xp home DVD RW drive LG

Hi,

Indeed, certain protections prevent the reading of CDs/DVDs on a computer (and even on game consoles!!!).

Hi,
It's not normal that you can't read it!!! I don't think it has anything to do with the copy protection system. In read-only mode, you should be able to read everything. Have you tried with a different player than Power DVD? (for example, VLC or Windows Media Player) or on a standalone player?
See you!

Hi,
about new DVDs? I didn't know and I've never had this problem.
Do you have any information or a link that talks about it? I'm interested
see you later

Hi Alain,

If you want some info, there's this site:
http://www.gravure-news.com/

As for me, I had the problem with the movie "The Grudge", couldn't play it on my PS2 console.

I don't have a home DVD player; I tried it on my boss's computer reader and it works there.
I had a new LG DVD writer installed recently.
It reads my old DVDs, but not this one.

Maybe it's simply a codec problem:

Hello blueoystercult,

No, the problem doesn't come from there. For DVDs, it's the unique mpg2 standard; if it works for the old DVDs, then it's not a decoding issue.
The codec problem is more associated with .AVI file types.

it's completely wrong... Codecs apply to all audio and video formats

I'm sorry, I don't see the connection between the new DVD formats not yet marketed to my knowledge and the outdated codecs.

Otherwise, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia where anyone is free to say whatever nonsense they want.... and I've often noticed monumental errors.

There are 2 DVD formats: DVD+ and DVD-
What type of DVD do you have and is it recognized by your player?

For blueoystercult,

For more info:

http://www.homecinema-fr.com/bible/sources_av/dvd1.php
read the paragraph "What are video standards?".

If you have any doubts about the article, you can always search on a metasearch engine for other sources (that are more reliable for you).

Hello again,
But it may be that your DVD has a manufacturing defect (invisible to the naked eye) and it can happen that it is not readable on one player while it is on another. Personally, I would return the disc to the store for an exchange.
1> By the way, do you have an error message that appears on your PC?
See you!

Hello again, I have a message that says the player does not recognize the format, what I find strange is that the player makes a lot of noise when it spins. My colleague tried it on her computer and it works. On the case, it says PAL.

Hi,
You need to check which formats are supported by your reader + and if there might be an update on the manufacturer's website.
See you!

Hello
I had the same problem with the DVD. I went to rent it at the video club and I couldn't play it on my home player.
I tried it on my computer and it crashed after 15 minutes.
It's a new "seven" anti-copy encoding. If anyone has more details, I'd love to hear them.
