Disconnected WIFI Connection & Freebox Card

Solved

Hello,

I've been trying for several hours to connect my laptop to a Freebox via WiFi, but I'm having no luck. Here's the situation:

As I indicated in the configuration info, I inserted a FREE WiFi card into the Freebox, activated my Freebox WiFi connection on the FREE website, and rebooted the Freebox.

Note:
The Freebox WiFi card comes from another Free ADSL WiFi subscription (When I connect to this other Free subscription with this card and my laptop, it works): I took the card from this other subscription to insert it into my Freebox, with which I'm facing this issue.

Question: Are FREE WiFi cards configured to only work with a specific Freebox (linked to a subscription), or are they interchangeable between Freeboxes?

If the card is interchangeable between Freeboxes, I'm facing the following problem:

On my laptop, in the taskbar, the wireless connection icon shows a red cross. When I open network connections, it appears as "Not connected," with this red cross. (I could say that this network connection is my way of the cross!).

Right-click, then "Show available wireless networks": my wireless network configured on the Free website appears (with the indication "secured wireless network (WPA)" and the maximum level of reception indication (green bar histogram).

If I click on my wireless network that I've identified, the background turns blue.
I press the "connect" button at the bottom right, and I'm prompted to enter my key then connect:
A window opens and shows an image of two computers trying to connect with the message "waiting for the network." After about thirty seconds, this window disappears, the connected button remains grayed out, and nothing happens.
In the taskbar, the wireless connection icon still has a red cross.
This is where I stand.
Sorry for writing a novel about this issue.
I thank anyone who can enlighten me and help me get out of this deadlock.
Configuration: Local Ethernet network with a PC (OS: XP Mediacenter) connected to Freebox and printer: internet access is correct (this is how I'm sending this message). Freebox: unbundled area, router function activated. Free WiFi card inserted into the Freebox. Wireless network activation performed on the Free website [SSID, channel 11, WPA (I don't know if it's AES or TKIP), key of 8 characters]. A laptop with XP PRO (this is the computer for which I'm having trouble establishing the wireless connection): equipped with built-in WiFi [Intel(R)PRO/wireless 2200BG Network Connection].

I have the same problem as you and I wonder which encryption to choose with the WPA offered by Free: TKIP or AES?

Hello ... as far as I'm concerned, I've tried them all, and apart from WEP and TKIP-AES, all the others are displayed without security. Nevertheless, the Wi-Fi doesn't start. The diagnostic reports that the connectivity for accessing Wi-Fi is too slow, and this even after trying the 10 or 12 possible channels.

I bought the Wi-Fi card for my Free but I can't connect to Wi-Fi at all.

Hello, the wifi cards for the Freebox are not assigned to a specific subscription, but depending on the model of the Freebox. The type of Freebox is noted underneath, for example for mine: B-FBX-ADSL04. I received a free 801-11b card for this Freebox, much to my dismay. I tried a friend's 801-11g card and it doesn't work!!! So, you need the right wifi card that corresponds to the model of Freebox. Regards.

Hello
I'm unable to connect my Xbox 360 to my Freebox via Wi-Fi
I had a first Freebox that worked perfectly with my card
but the Freebox burned out so they replaced it and with the new one
it's impossible to connect via Wi-Fi
I have two Wi-Fi cards for the V4: model: WPCR-158G
model: WCB-G12F
AND THE NEW FREEBOX: B0438R2-FBX-ADSL04
I would like to know if my cards are compatible; the LEDs light up well.

Il faut que tu ailles sur free.fr, tu dois t'identifier avec une facture et tu vas dans la fonction routeur, tu l'actives et tu rentres la clé que je fais pour ma Wii et ça marche bien.

And what did you do? I have the exact same problems with my Freebox + 802.11g card and my ACER laptop, which I bought about a year ago.

Hi everyone,

I'm having the same issue, but I've also noticed that when I set up the wireless network with all the necessary information, key, network name, etc., and save it, I right-click before connecting to the network and my laptop doesn't remember the key; it keeps all the correct configuration except for the key. Initially, I enter 10 digits or letters, and when I check, only 8 remain. I don't think that's the cause, but I have no idea where it could be coming from.

I had the same problem as Rock07 on an Acer with a 802.11g card and couldn't establish a Wi-Fi connection with my Freebox. It turned out that the Freebox was broadcasting on channel 12 and the Broadcom 802.11g card cannot recognize the Wi-Fi network above channel 11. So, I went to the settings of my Freebox: http://mafreebox.freebox.fr/ to set it to broadcast on channel 11.

You need to select WPA-TKP

Otherwise, a simple thing... you need to connect to the Free website to activate Wi-Fi mode.

If you have a red icon, it means your PC does not detect any Wi-Fi signals.

Hello everyone,

Like you, I can't connect my DS to Nintendo Wi-Fi.
I have a Linksys modem router and the Freebox.
I have correctly configured all the options (IP, Subnet mask, Gateway, DNS...) except the WEP key because I don't have one.
But even though the console recognizes the name of my router, it tells me:
5
Ghost

it will never work
your freeBox is a modem router
- you cannot put a modem router behind another modem router
- however, you can put a router behind your freebox as long as you set it to modem (in Bridge)
for Linksys there are the WRT54G and WRT54GS

Hi ghost, and thank you for your response
However, I may not have expressed myself clearly, I meant that I have the same problem as AWIRH; I don't have a second router, I only have a Free V4, a Free "802.11g PC CARD" Wi-Fi card (model: WPCB-115G) (taken from my mom's), and my laptop with an integrated Wi-Fi card "Acer IPN2220 Wireless LAN Card".
So I have the same problem as AWIRH, namely:

"My wireless network configured on the Free site appears (with the indication "secure wireless network (WPA)" and maximum reception level indication (histogram with green bars).

If I click on my wireless network that I've identified, the background turns blue.
I press the "connect" button at the bottom right, I'm prompted to enter my key and then connect:
A window opens and shows an image of two computers trying to connect with the message "waiting for the network". After about thirty seconds, this window disappears, the connected button remains grayed out and nothing happens.
In the taskbar, the wireless connection icon still has a red cross on it. "

I have indeed activated the router mode, the Wi-Fi mode via the Free site, rebooted the device; but I really don’t understand why the connection is not being established :-/

Thank you for your help ;-)
and that of other inter (Free) net surfers

Hi tonioboc, I wanted to tell you that I have exactly the same problem as you with my Wi-Fi, but the weirdest thing is that my phone's Wi-Fi works perfectly at my parents' place, but at mine, it's just as you described (honestly, it's really frustrating);
just to be sure, I had my Freebox changed but with no result, it's still the same.
I really don't know what to do, it's driving me crazy, let me know if you find the solution because for now, it’s really stressing me out.
THANKS IN ADVANCE, a+++

Same problem for me: connection recognized, it spins for 30 seconds and then goes back to square one without any particular message and especially without a connection!!

How can I tell if my Freebox is a V3 or V4?

My Freebox model is ADSL04, does that mean it's a V4?
My Wi-Fi card is the model WPCB-115G, is it compatible?

Help! Help! Help! It's really a damn bug!

If I find a solution elsewhere, I'll communicate it to you.

Hello, I had the same problem as everyone else but I managed to fix it and everything works perfectly, my PC is connected via Ethernet and my laptop is on Wi-Fi.
If I can help, don't hesitate to send me a little private message.
Have a great day!

Hello everyone,
1. One thing is for sure, if you have Wi-Fi connection problems, start by disabling the router function on the Free website. One problem at a time.
I have the same issue as all of you. The card identifies the network but does not connect to it.

I have a Netgear WPN511 PCMCIA card. The manufacturer states that it works with WPA-PSK.
Additionally, I have a Freebox V5 (HD). On its website, Free states that Wi-Fi works with WPA (TKIP), WPA (AES/CCMP), or even WPA (TKIP + AES).

I don't know if this is true for all of you, but I think it's a problem with the data encryption mode.
As for me, I still don't know the compatibility between PSK and TKIP or between PSK and AES,...

A sure way to test is to set no security on the Free website or in the configuration of the Wi-Fi PCMCIA card. At least while adjusting the settings!

Quick question:
On the Free website, when configuring the Wi-Fi function, you enter a WPA key and then generate this key (it transforms into a long alphanumeric list). Which key should be entered in the connection settings under Windows? The one you wrote down or the one generated by Free?
0
barn > Tarik

When you click the "generate" button, you create a new key randomly assigned by free.
So it is this code that you need to copy into Windows.

If you enter a key of your choice, do not click on the "generate" button. Copy the code you chose into Windows.

If router mode is enabled, remember to configure the TCP/IP of your Wi-Fi card in your computer.

Hello
I see that I'm not the only one having wifi issues!!
When I set up my Freebox v4 with wifi, everything went very well. I was always getting a "good" or "very good" signal (4 or 5 bars)
But! since I received the Freebox HD (I simply replaced the v4 with the HD without changing anything else, neither settings nor locations) I have a "very weak" or "weak" signal (1 bar) and sometimes no signal at all!
Before the total unbundling, I was theoretically at 8Mbits and actually at 2500Kbits; with the total unbundling and the v4, I went up to 4000Kbits and with the HD, I dropped back to 2000Kbits or even less, while the theoretical speed is 36Mbits!! what a joke!!
I think this is due to the weak signal, but I can't seem to solve this problem.
Here are my specifications:
Windows XP Home
on PC: wifi card IEEE 802.11g Wireless...
WEP with 26-character key on channel 11: there are at most 2 other detected wifi networks on channel 1.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this?
Thanks in advance.

There may be 2 reasons:
1° try to find the best possible orientation for the 2 antennas of the FBX HD,
2° you need to explore the performance of each wifi channel from 1 to 13: on the wifi configuration interface of your box by rebooting it each time; receivers are often designed for specific frequency ranges

and when it works, set up WPA encryption instead of WEP: it's more secure (the most secure being filtering by MAC physical address; but I believe this feature is reserved for good routers and not the HD box)
good luck!

Hello, I bought
1 x F5D8010fr - PCMCIA WiFi MIMO card for my laptop
1 x WPN311 - 108 Mbps MIMO wireless PCI card for my desktop

and it's working great with my Freebox HD V4 (WEP key)

I'll try to switch to a WAP key soon

good luck to everyone

Hi!

I installed a Freebox V4 at a friend's place who is on VISTA some time ago.
Everything is working fine wired. I configured the WiFi on the Free website and noted the WEP key => it finds the network, and when I try to connect, it doesn't ask for the key and can't connect...

Since this resembles your problem a lot, do you have a solution?

Thanks in advance.

PS: I have my own Freebox V4 wired + WiFi + router that works very well on XP...

I apparently have the same problem: I have a 108Mb NetGear USB stick, I installed the driver, the PC sees the Freebox if it's not too far away: little green icon and all buttons OK. The problem is that the internet connection doesn't work (I activated Wi-Fi on the Free site and I enabled DHCP as advised by the NetGear hotline) + rebooted the Freebox.
Help: it still doesn't work!!!
PS: it's a recent FB V4 (February 06).

hi
I repeat: you must follow the installation procedure "to the letter" (if we start by installing the Wi-Fi network on the PC, it could fail!)
1° activate the Wi-Fi feature on the FBX (through the configuration interface) - if there is only 1 PC behind: disable the ROUTER function of the FBX
2° reboot the FBX
3° install the wireless network on your PC

and then you will see that the Link LED on your Wi-Fi card of the FBX will start blinking in harmony with the light of your USB Wi-Fi key

one piece of advice: during the Wi-Fi initialization of the FBX, choose (or test one by one) all channels from 1 to 13, rebooting each time, then
also choose a protection with a WPA key (something very simple at first - which you can modify as you wish later)

To configure and start your PC's Wi-Fi connection, you will ignore the channel (it will be found automatically!), but you will need to enter the WPA key chosen above (twice)

apparently, for me, the connection is most stable on channels 11 to 13

I almost forgot, after phase 2, you insert the Free Wi-Fi card into its slot: this causes a new reboot!
And then phase 3!

Hi,

I followed your suggestions to the letter ... and nothing.
Someone must have had this issue and resolved it!
Any other ideas?

I've been having the same problem for a week. No matter what I do, there's no connection to my wireless network, no internet access, and no access to my email (POP issue ...) I've tried everything! NOTHING, and when I called customer support, I waited 10 minutes on the phone only to hear that all agents were busy.... customer service???

tibz: hello, I have a wifi connection problem with my Freebox HD (v5):
- when I connect via RJ45 behind the box, it's ok; my address provided by DHCP is correct: 192.168.0.<number>
- when I connect via wifi: my address is: 169.254.X.X: I don't know where my Freebox is getting this DHCP address from, as the card is configured without an IP address and in DHCP.

and when I type: ipconfig /all I don't have a gateway or DNS!! so I can't resolve the names: free.fr, etc.. I can't ping my Freebox either (normal, no routing to 192.x.x.x)

- when I manually set my first address that should be provided by DHCP (in 192) on my wifi card, the network is established, connection maintained but I cannot "ping" the Free DNS or my Freebox. In short, I don't see anyone on the network.
My connection through IE7 still doesn't work via wifi. directly (RJ45) no problem.

Hello

I have a similar problem to several of you. Freebox V5 connection, WiFi activated. Mac G4 OK connected directly to the freebox: it works.

PC Packard Bell Sb85 Windows Vista: RJ45 OK, WiFi OK it works and connects: Azureus works as well as Firefox.

BUT DELL Inspiron 1720 Windows Vista and Linux Ubuntu 7.10: Under Ubuntu RJ45 OK, nothing on WiFi as the Dell 1395 card is not yet recognized, I'm working on fixing that. However, under Vista: RJ45 connection OK, WiFi connection OK since Azureus connects (bittorrent and various channels OK). But Firefox, Safari, and IE7: send requests and then wait a long time for responses to those requests! After extensive searches on the forums, found nothing:

So I might as well ask the question clearly: do you have any idea?

Thanks

A+

Hi everyone, here's my problem with the Wi-Fi. My computer isn't connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable, and the one upstairs is running XP. I want to set it up for Wi-Fi. I have the Freebox, I've put the card in the Freebox, and when I plug in the USB key, it starts and finds the network. Then, two seconds later, it says "error: key, unable to connect." Who can help me? Thanks.

Hello,

My XBOX 360 WIFI does not detect my FreeBox V4 WIFI

I bought an XBOX 360 with an XBOX WiFi card (USB)
I have a FreeBox V4 in WIFI
- on the XBOX 360, under Network, it detects the name of my Free network
but the WiFi LED on the 360 is solid red
- it detects the networks around me and the LED turns green, but nothing from my FreeBox
- I have called Microsoft and Free several times, and they keep passing the buck
- Microsoft told me to enter the MAC address of the console on the FreeBox
because they said the solid red LED means it is ready but not receiving a signal
I think I have a blockage in the configuration of the FreeBox
- if I run a long cable (10m) ethernet between my hub behind the
FreeBox: okay, the connection works in Ethernet on my XBOX 360
- but it’s the WIFI connection that I want to make work

Does anyone have a FreeBox V4 and a working XBOX 360 WIFI?

- I’ve looked around, many people have had this issue (XBOX WIFI / FREEBOX),
but no one provides solutions.

Thank you for your help.

Hello AWIRH,

I have exactly the same problem as you.

I have a perfect WIFI connection on my Desktop, but I can't connect my Intel(R)PRO/wireless 2200BG Network Connection. It detects the network (SSID) fine, but I can't connect to it :(

Were you able to solve your problem? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks in advance for your response.
