Hello everyone,

.I need to buy a new power supply and a new graphics card, and I've already made my choices, a question comes to mind... :

=> Is it possible that my PCI-Express (x16) port is dead?

- In fact, before, I had a graphical problem, and I was convinced that my graphics card was burnt out. And now, I’m in doubt. Let me explain: I’m hesitating: either what I thought is confirmed, or it’s the PCI-E port that is "acting up".

- This is why before buying my new graphics card compatible with a PCI-E port, I’m wondering if it’s actually my PCI-E port that is dead, which would be more troubling.

- Not owning more than one computer at home and therefore not being able to test my supposedly "burnt-out" graphics card on another computer, I can't know if it was really her (the graphics card) or the PCI-E port that was malfunctioning.

=> Do you know of any software that can detect this type of port or another method?

.PS [3] : In the meantime, I’m using a low-end graphics card on the PCI port while waiting to buy new hardware. So it’s not a general issue with the motherboard.

I take the time to ask my question because if I wait with my new graphics card and realize it is not detected due to my PCI-Express (x16) port being dead, I would feel foolish. That’s why I think it’s wiser to know if my port is functional or not before buying new equipment. I say this to clarify my situation to others.

- Screen Resolution: 1680 X 1050 pixels (px) - 60 Hertz (Hz).

    Hello
    There is nothing to test a PCIexpress port apart from professional test cards.
    In your case, you'll know when you receive your new graphics card.

    However, it's worth noting that cases of faulty PCIexpress ports on a motherboard are very rare. I can recall two instances I've encountered, and in both cases it was due to a nforce4 chipset that didn't survive one lightning strike and the other "the death" of a power supply.

    Well, that wasn't the case. I had gradient graphics on my screen and my graphics card was still being detected.

    It is indeed the graphics card that causes this type of phenomenon; the PCI Express port has nothing to do with it. The graphics card is likely dead.

    First of all, thank you for your quick response. Now, I'm sure of one thing: my PCI-Express port (x16) couldn't be broken but at worst defective (well, there wouldn't be much difference regarding its functionality).

    - Next, I have a small clarification to add: I believe my graphics card was also defective because, ultimately, if my PCI Express port (x16) had any (serious) failure, I wouldn't be able to have any graphics on my computer since the graphics card would no longer be detected.

    - However, that wasn't the case. I had degraded graphics on my screen and my graphics card was still detected (I could see this through the device managers).

    => To my knowledge, the role of this type of port is to ensure the transmission of data between the graphics card and the motherboard. So if there could have been a problem, it wouldn't lead to graphical defects but rather detection issues? Is that correct?

    -> In short, I'm asking if a failure of a PCI-Express port (x16) could lead to graphical defects or only detection issues, for those who haven't understood?

    - If I’m taking the liberty to add this clarification and ask additional questions, it's because I want to be as reassured as possible regarding my port and get confirmations. I know that if we don't have something at hand to test, we can't precisely say whether it is functional or not, but it’s always good to clarify doubts regarding this.
