SATA driver for Windows 7 installation

Hi,
I had the same problem with an Acer laptop, no hard drive??
I also thought that I needed to install the SATA drivers, but this manipulation made my drive detectable; you just need to change the mode from "AHCI to IDE" in the BIOS, but I'm not exactly sure where, but my drive was recognized after this change and at the next boot, I was able to install without any problems afterward.

PS. my drive is SATA and not IDE, I don't quite understand, but in IDE mode, the SATA is recognized.

But you can keep your Vista and create a partition for your Win 7
in Dualboot.

No, I wanted to install Windows 7 directly on the partition where Vista is.

Okay, before I installed a lot with XP and it didn't create any problems.. I must be too used to XP ^^

No, I definitely want to get rid of Vista :) I'm going to format and install Windows on a nice clean partition ^^

Normally, you shouldn't have any driver issues,
Since Vista is also set to AHCI in the BIOS.
But it's better to check if you are not on IDE, although I don't think so.

Yes, on the disk there are 2 partitions, one for storage and the other for the system. Vista is installed on the system partition.

Did you create a new partition to install your Win 7?
Or did you try to remove Vista and replace it with Win 7?

It's curious, because I have an Acer 5315 laptop that came with Vista installed, and when I wanted to "downgrade" to XP and format (install XP and erase Vista), when I inserted the XP CD, it booted from the CD to the point where it needed to choose the disk for installation, but it didn't detect any disks. Then I went into the BIOS, changed the "SATA mode" to IDE mode, as it was set to AHCI by default. I rebooted from my XP CD and there it was, the disk appeared and the installation continued. (And my disk is indeed a SATA!)

I can’t find the AHCI mode in the BIOS.. :/ Is it mainly located in the boot section? I also tried installing the system from another PC by removing the hard drive, but Windows crashes on startup.. ^^

It’s kind of a mess..

In my Acer laptop, it can be found in the "Main" tab under "SATA mode." By opening it, I have the option to set it to AHCI or IDE, but for yours, I don't know, but there should definitely be a place to change it, that's for sure.

By the way, installing the system on another computer and transferring the disk does not work, unless the model is identical, and even then there can be errors due to the motherboard, drivers, etc.

Yes, the "MAIN" tab with IDE PRIMARY/Master and SATA Port 1, but I cannot change them, the writing is grayed out.. :/

Before the installation, you need to format your partition to NTFS.
In the BIOS, check if you can set it to SATA > AHCI instead of IDE.
Do you have another system and other partitions on your hard drive?

To install Win 7 on the system partition,
you must format your Vista beforehand! the C: partition
Because having two systems on the same partition causes problems.

Yes, if you install XP, you must be in IDE Sata mode.
But for Win 7, it must be in AHCI.

Also beware of this: Acer computers are locked down; if you want to install a system using CDs/DVDs other than Acer's master CDs, it can cause problems.
