Hello everyone,
I am seeking your help for a problem that is bothering me greatly..
I have a "HP 550" laptop that I bought a year ago. The problem started last night, I was calmly working on it when it suddenly turned dark.
The screen became completely dark, but we can still see that the screen is functioning normally (the desktop, icons, etc.). I even connected it to an external monitor and everything seems to work properly except the screen.
I have consulted several websites and forums and concluded that this kind of problem is common with Toshiba, but I don't see what could have caused it on my machine.
Note that this is the second time the problem has appeared; during its first appearance, it lasted about an hour, but when I closed the lid and then reopened it, the brightness returned for approximately two seconds.. It then auto-adjusted as if by magic..
Hence the title of the topic and my questions:
1. If the problem does not come from the graphics card or elsewhere, it probably originates from the screen, but since I can still see it functioning despite the darkness, the screen is not damaged..
2. I would lean towards the lid sensor? The computer might think that the lid is still closed, and that is the reason why it remains in this darkness? This would explain the two seconds of brightness that appeared earlier, during the first occurrence of the problem?
To see if the problem comes from the second option, I would like someone to show me how to disable the "lid sensor"..
I really need your help.. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely, Angel OTD.
Configuration: Windows Vista / Firefox 3.5.3 / HP 550 Laptop

Hi Angel OTD,
it could be that the inverter has failed
it is used for the "lighting" of the screen
check towards a small computer store, to see if they might have one in used parts (from a dead laptop)
see you later

The problem was due to a part called "THT", it tripped and therefore needed to be replaced.
Thank you for your help anyway.
