Hello, I received a video via msn and when I try to open it with QuickTime, it gives me error 2048 and Windows Media Player can't play it either. I don't understand, can you help me and tell me how to play this video? Thank you!
Also, I apologize for the spelling mistakes! I should mention that I'm on Windows XP.

Hello Nas-Tee,

Can you provide additional information about this file?

For example, what is its "format"?
What are its characteristics (codecs) that you obtain with MediaInfo among others?
Have you tried opening it with VLC?

Best regards

MediaInfo with a tutorial here: http://www.tutoriels-animes.com/identifier-format-video.html
Just use the basic view, it’s sufficient.
The information to provide concerns the size expressed in MiB or KiB, and the data on the video and audio streams.

So they tell me the location of the video, as well as the size, and another thing next to it says exactly 82.6 MB.

Thank you, and do you have any other information?
Well, it might simply be a problem of bad encoding.

Try it, it's just a test to download Media Player Classic to see if this playback software or another can read your file?
Then, secondly, and if you want, we'll try to see if re-encoding your video would make it readable.

I am still surprised that VLC cannot read it, as it can handle a lot of strange stuff anyway. But well, it has its weaknesses too^^

For error 2048, it seems to be related to MPEG-2 files: https://support.apple.com/fr-fr/TS2535
But you have an AVI file, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Since I’m not quite sure what to tell you and I can’t see the problem well, I can suggest two things:
1) Try re-encoding your file on your side with the MediaCoder software. By default, it converts to MP4, and the file should be playable with VLC for example.
2) You can contact me via PM by clicking on "write him a message," so I can try to see if I can convert your file on my end.
To send me the troublesome video file, you can use DL Free: http://dl.free.fr/
This suggestion is only if you wish, I'm not forcing you, and I can't guarantee that I will succeed.

See you!

Alright, you didn't disturb me, I'm here for that ;)
Let me know if you want to...
If you're having trouble, however, we could try other things.

Note: I don't care about the content, it was just to help you, that's all. Once tested, I would have deleted your file.

I downloaded what you told me but it doesn't work and I tried to play it with real player but it doesn't work, most software tells me "the file cannot be played because it is either not supported by the software or it is corrupted =/"

Sorry, but I'm having some connection issues due to the work on CCM, no doubt.

Uninstall MediaCoder if you no longer need it.

A corrupted file can either come from a bad encoding or an error that occurred during the download.
As for playback, you may not have the right software, but if VLC can't read it, I don't think another player will manage it easily.

My offer to test your file for you still stands; it will save you from downloading and installing software you probably don't need.
I'm doing this for you because apart from testing and trying out several programs, I don't see what more can be done: \
The other thing you could do is contact the person who sent you this file and ask them how they manage to read it!

Talk to you later.
