Hello everyone

So, recently I bought the DJ software "Virtual DJ"

And I learned that you can:
pre-listen to the music you are going to play at a party through headphones while a different song is playing in the room. The goal is to prepare the future music that you are going to play at the party.

The problem is that you need to set up your sound card and I don't know how to do it.
I challenge anyone who can explain it to me from A to Z, because let's just say I'm a bit of a Noob
Thank you everyone (in advance!)

Hello everyone, I'm going to explain to you how to do it and you don't need a sound card with 4.1-5.1-6.1 or 7.1, a 3.1 is more than enough.
Connect your speakers to the green jack, and your headphones to the blue jack, then open your sound card configuration (if it's a Realtek, it opens automatically). Click on the blue jack and check "rear speaker output," then click on 2ch-speakers and click on 4ch-speakers and hit ok. Next, open VDJ and click on config/audio configuration and select output headphones and next to it select master: front output/cue: rear output.
Then select 4.1 Realtek HD audio output, apply and ok.
Next, put 1 audio track on each deck and press play. You will see that you will hear 2 songs at the same time, lower the fader on the side where the PFL is not on and listen in your headphones that you will hear it but not on your speakers. Click on the red (or blue) PFL and you will hear a slight preview of the ongoing music whose fader is up you have a preview in your headphones.
Glad to have helped you.

Yes, but this is not applicable with a MacBook Air, and that is my problem.

I have a laptop, so I only have one audio output. Should I use the HDMI output to get an additional audio source, or install an external sound card (USB)? I'm not sure if it will work because the signal is prioritized on the 3.5mm jack. If I add an external sound card, will the speaker audio signal direct to the jack output, and will the pre-listening direct to the sound card?

Hello everyone, I used V.DJ a lot before moving on to slightly more complex equipment (cdj1000 mk3 and Korg KM403)

Regarding the sound card settings for monitoring the "off-mix" tracks, you need to go to the software configuration menu, audio properties.

There are three possibilities:

1- Either you have a 4.1 sound card or higher 5.1, 7.1... you just need to separate your channels for output (audio channel) and yes, 4.1 means 4 channels of stereo output on speakers + 1 mono output channel on a subwoofer.
In other words, 4 speakers and 1 subwoofer.

For this, you just need to select the channel of your choice for headphone monitoring, and select the other channels for speaker output.

2- If you don’t have a 4.1, 5.1, 7.1 sound card... you need to add another sound card to your system, which you will configure (once recognized by your operating system) as the headphone monitoring support.

3- The DIY solution, aimed at separating the two stereo channels. Indeed, stereo is a clever idea to "broaden" the sound, meaning that when we listen to stereo, we have the impression of hearing the sound distribution in a "curvilinear" manner.
This magic trick is caused by a simple delay of the sound emitted by a so-called "right" output channel compared to another "left" output channel.
This delay is about 20 ms.

Mono, on the other hand, is a simple division of audio output into two "right" and "left" channels; in other words, stereo requires a delay, and mono does not.

So, speaking of stereo means a double processing of the audio signal, hence two "pseudo" channels, the DIY trick will aim to physically separate its "jack-RCA" cable (generally) into two, using what is called a "stereo splitter" sold on the market. This stereo splitter will plug into your sound card's audio output and split into two, leaving you with two "pseudo" channels, on which you will connect your sound system on the right or left, and your headphones on the other side.

From the configuration perspective, you just need to switch to MONO processing.

There you go, I hope I have answered all your questions clearly enough, and feel free to reach out to me for other issues.

At your service, and at the service of the djinn, Dj vevert.

Hi everyone and thank you Dj vevert for these explanations. I have version 5.0 and I couldn't find how to get the OFF-MIX.

I kindly ask you to explain (in simpler terms) the steps to configure it.

Thank you for your help and see you soon.

Hey man, maybe you can help me with my problem. I'm not an expert and I'm getting into mixing little by little. I bought a Numark multitrack pro, I have a MacBook with VirtualDJ (I'm giving you all the references in case it helps you answer), and I don't know how to use the pre-listen channel. Can you help me because I'm really struggling.
Many thanks!

Hello.

DJ, I followed your advice: I bought a Y splitter to get two channels since I have a basic sound card.

But I can't switch my output to mono. My laptop is applying the sound in stereo.

How can I switch to mono? With Virtual DJ? Vista...?

Hello,

I have a different situation; my sound is in stereo and I have two pairs of speakers, and I'd like the sound to come out of both speakers at the same time.
Is that possible?

You can find new turntables for cheap now (ndx 800 from Numark offers good value for money: €350 for the beast). For a mixing console, you can get one for €100. If you really want to learn how to beatmatch, start with that. Then, in terms of software, Serato is much better but you need turntables or a MIDI controller.

Hello,
I also got this software and I am going to buy the B-CONTROL DEEJAY BCD2000. I would like to know if someone could explain to me how it works exactly, because I saw that in the Virtual configuration there is this option to connect the BCD2000 console via USB.

Thank you in advance!!

Hello everyone, I've been surfing for several days without any valid or even approximate answers!!! So I hope to find a pro who has gone through the same struggles and can enlighten my beginner's mind, as I'm managing pretty well for now without headphones in Virtual DJ 4.2 and without a mixing table. So I want to keep working and maybe equip myself to improve.
Get ready, I'm waiting for HELP
Goodbye everyone
