Hello,
I bought Snow Leopard (29 euros) in a store. I erased the entire original program (Tiger 10.4.11) via the utility. When the installation starts, after about 4 minutes (out of the expected 30 minutes), an error message appears:
"The installation has failed. Mac OS X could not be installed on the computer. The installer failed to copy the necessary support files. Click Restart to restart the computer, then try again...."
I've tried to install it 7 times in a row but to no avail. I went to Apple and they told me it might be a hard drive issue. I do not want to pay for a repair that turns out to be expensive (200 euros). Is there a solution? I can still reinstall Tiger, but they said it remains to be seen if the problem comes from the hard drive.
Some info about my system: Intel Core Duo, 2GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive. MacBook from 2006. Thank you for responding as soon as possible; I appreciate your attention.
Best regards

Hello
I didn't pay attention to your first line which was very important. You bought the Snow Leopard upgrade for 29 euros. You cannot install this CD because you are on Tiger.
For this version, you need to be at least on 10.5 (Leopard), which is not the case for you because you must be on 10.4 (Tiger).
For Snow Leopard to work, you would need to purchase the Mac Box Set, which costs 169 euros.
The technician told you nonsense, you can believe me.
As for you, in my opinion, you must not have read carefully. It is true that it is possible to install Snow Leopard, but you have to buy the CD for 169 euros, not the one for 29 euros.
If the seller assured you otherwise, it's because he knows nothing or he's a scammer.
That's it, see you later. -

Hello
I don't quite see why a hard drive would be "broken" just because it has been erased, I hope -
furthermore, at the beginning of this snow, there was a discussion about whether this version was a major update of 10.5 or a standalone version ... at this price... !!!
It is said today that you can fully install this 10.6 from this 29 euro version -

come back and let us know -
participants in this forum have testified to having perfectly installed 10.6 on 10.4
good luck
see you++++++++ -
Yes, I checked on the Apple site that it is indeed possible to install Snow Leopard on Tiger (10.4.xx), and on the other hand, I called an Apple technician who told me that this software can be installed on my machine; I do not have an external burner. I would be troubled to think that I have to reinstall Tiger and stay on it. Do I need to reformat my hard drive? What should I do in the utility so that I can install Snow Leopard without any issues? I will try again this evening, hoping for a favorable response from you. As for the store, they told me that the estimate would be charged (50 euros) if I do not carry out the repairs. I am a student and my resources are limited; thank you.

Hello
insert your installation DVD and start your computer while holding down the C key.
On the welcome page, go to the top of your screen where you should see Disk Utility. Format your hard drive by clicking on the Erase tab. Choose the Mac OS Extended format.
Return to the welcome window and begin the installation of Snow Leopard. -

same problem too...
I'm struggling because I didn't receive an installation CD for 10.4 :s -
I succeeded in the installation by removing a RAM stick. Then reinstalled both sticks (2x2GB) and tested the sticks, all OK!!
Strange but problem solved. -
Hello.
I had the same problem as you, the installation started normally but then froze at 28 minutes remaining with the same error message.
I installed in target mode and it fixed the issue.
Installation in target mode:
(iMac G4 = blank computer; G5 and master computer)
- Connect the two computers with a FireWire cable
- Start the iMac by holding down T until the FireWire symbol appears
- Start the G5 from the installation DVD
- Choose the orange hard drive labeled FireWire (that's the one from the iMac)
- Once installed, turn off both computers, unplug the cable, and restart the iMac
I successfully installed 10.5 intended for a PowerBook G5 on an iMac G4 and installed 10.6.2 intended for an iMac G5 on an iMac G4 using this method.
If it still doesn't work, then you have a problem with your hard drive or your memory sticks.
I hope I was able to help you ;) -

Apple talks about issues if you have made backups with Time Machine.

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro from 2009, bought second-hand, I followed the troubleshooting steps on Apple's website and it worked for me.

I hope it helps.. -
Hello, it still doesn't work. I keep getting the same message that reappears after 4 minutes of installation.
"The installation has failed. Mac OS X could not be installed on the computer. The installer failed to copy the necessary support files. Click restart to restart the computer, then try again.... "
I have wiped my hard drive several times via the utility. The disk is completely empty. Tonight I will try on a different hard drive, but I hope it won't work either, which would mean it comes from the disk (new, I clarify, received from Apple on Saturday). I don't necessarily want to reinstall Tiger. I went back to the Apple store and they told me to check if there are any marks or dust on the disk. A tiny detail can cause a failure during execution. I was able to reinstall Tiger recently for a small issue, and that worked well, so I don’t see why I wouldn’t be able to install Snow Leopard. My MacBook is compatible; I verified that with a professional by giving him its reference. Thank you.
