THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I just followed your instructions and it works! I kept cleaning the nozzles, changing the black cartridge, with no results until I came across your instructions!!
Thank you very much

My printer has suddenly become very slow at copying overnight, what should I do?

It's 2019, and I must admit that I was reading this solution, which is 8 years old, with a bit of laughter, as the symptoms don't exactly match what's described here... I was VERY shocked to see that it worked... thank you so much!
I also have a SX510W purchased in October 2010, delivered with cartridges T0711, T0712, T0713, and T0714. I replaced them with compatible EPSON T1001, T1002, T1003, and T1004, and then there were no more prints despite cleanings. While browsing different forums, I came across one that proposed a solution that I eagerly tried, and it worked. With the computer off, start a cartridge change, remove them, then close all the covers, disconnect the printer (without turning it off with the switch), reconnect it, and turn it back on (it indicates the absence of cartridges) then reinstall the cartridges. Normally, it should work.

I will try it at the next breakdown. But it is not normal for a new, branded machine to require such operations!

My printer is once again out of black ink and your comment really helped me the first time. This time, the black just won't cooperate, I think I will advise against EPSON as a brand.
Something that worked for me. After changing the 4 cartridges, nothing printed anymore, even after cleaning the heads. So I: - Reset the settings: Setup menu / Restore default values (except for network) - Then cleaned the heads
And it works again :)

it doesn't work for me, sorry

Sorry, it doesn't work for me :(

Owner for less than a year of an sx 510w, already returned twice for printing failure. Exchange each time after 3 weeks of downtime. Always a failure of black or color nozzles. Works brilliantly for a few weeks then suddenly, often when changing cartridges (original), it breaks down. Compatible cartridges should absolutely be avoided despite the interesting price and capacity. Machine is noisy and slow despite advertising. Regret this purchase. Yet this is the 3rd Epson. The first 2 had the same failures but after several years. I would change brand!

For me, that worked too, thanks for the advice.

Awesome!!! It works for me too, I've been struggling with the printer for days!!! Thanks a lot Seb for your advice!
lamichel35, Is your method only applicable to an SX 510W, or can it also be valid for an SX 405W, or even a DX 4850? Thank you in advance for your response. Best regards, Jack
It's not always that the trick of unplugging the printer, taking out the cartridges, etc., works. I'm fed up with doing cleanings that empty the cartridges. Luckily, I refill my cartridges.
On my SX510W, when a color stops printing, and after 3 or 4 useless cleanings, I remove the cartridge, and I connect a tiny tube to the nozzle inside the "print head" carriage. The tube I use is a "snot sucker" that we used for our baby... and that is no longer needed. On the other end, I connect a syringe, and I suck a bit to draw up some ink and blow to push it down... all 2 or 3 times.
I put the cartridge back in, and after 1 or 2 cleanings, it works perfectly again.
This problem has happened to me 3 times, and I've solved it this way. The first time, it was the black ink, and I had emptied the other cartridges twice because of unsuccessful cleanings and had found no solution. Some people talk about cleaning products to inject into the nozzle... but waiting for ordering and so on. I didn't order anything, and with this little tube, I managed to fix it without products!
Aside from this problem that I can solve, I'm happy with my Epson, but it's true that it's abuse to force consumption and especially waste.

Thank you very much, very efficient. I had exactly the same problem with black ink despite multiple cleanings of the nozzles. With the baby aspirator + two cleanings, the result is impeccable!!
Same issue, the black ink doesn't work, I've wasted hours trying to get it to work, I've installed new cartridges and nothing does the trick! I wouldn't recommend this brand to a friend.
Hello, There are cleaning cartridges available on the site arthurb.fr or on amazon.fr For various inkjet printers
These are cartridges with a solvent that allow: - Cleaning the print heads - Unclogging the print heads - Preventing white lines - Removing dried ink from your print head.
I also have the SX510W. When I replaced the cartridges (generic ones), everything worked fine, but during the next change (all 4 at once), I got the message "ink cartridges not recognized". I contacted the manufacturer of these compatible cartridges, who sent me others... with no result. I am still getting this message and I must point out that I cannot access the settings or any other button. Only the OK button works, in addition to the power button.
Do you have any idea what I can try? I've already tried a lot of things that you've suggested, like soaking up the ink, turning it off...
Thank you in advance.

I have the same issue of being unable to recognize the cartridges......... there is no indication on how to fix it.
Good evening, As for me, I bought the Epson 510w printer in April 2010. Due to the black printing issue, I returned it to where I bought it, as it was still under warranty. After 3 weeks of waiting, I finally got the equipment back (supposedly in exchange, but the serial number was the same!!!). Anyway, it worked for 2 weeks and the black printing issue happened again. Still under warranty, I returned the printer once more. It's off for another 3 weeks, but I hope this time the printer will be replaced. I did manage to have the store lend me another one in the meantime. However, I couldn't find any cleaning cartridges for this model. I think I'm simply going to change printers.

Same for me. I see that this model has the same flaw: the black. To be boycotted or to change brand.
150 € for a printer that stops working after a year and is therefore no longer under warranty, I'm losing it! :@

HELLO EVERYONE. I too have the same problems as you, I wrote for complaints (no response) thank you espson, so not goodbye; but FAREWELL to this brand, I will look towards other brands after inquiring first with a compatible supplier who has already been serving customers for some time.
Hello, 4th Epson, currently in service, sx510w with a black cartridge failure, and px 720w which still works because I refill the Epson cartridges and reset them, but it’s tedious because I have to monitor filling them before they drop below 25% ink. So I'm fed up with Epson, always issues with compatible cartridges and malfunctions due to the chip on the cartridge that prevents any option for cartridge compatibility. This time, goodbye Epson for me too, it’s a shame because their machines are top-notch technologically, but their system is really bad. If their sales drop significantly, they will have to stop their push for exclusive brand consumables, so let’s take action by boycotting purchases of this brand.
lamichel35, I'm adding myself to the list to say thank you. Helpless and broke to change printers, as I don’t find Epson reliable at all, I was quite troubled because I needed it. So, thank you for your help. Lak.
Hello, I have the same problem except that I have an Epson WF2510. After changing the cartridge to a compatible one, there is no more black ink when printing. I then bought an Epson cartridge, but the result is the same. After trying everything, I resigned myself to take it back to the store as it's still under warranty (bought less than a year ago), but I'm afraid it will happen again given your comments. Very disappointed with the brand!!...
Hi, I'm in the same boat as you. Have you found a solution? The black Epson ink isn't working! Despite several attempts at initialization, cleaning the print head, and the nozzles. In short, no results.
what can I do since the printer is no longer under warranty?
I was VERY shocked to see that it worked... thank you so much!
