Imation Apollo external hard drive not working anymore.

Hello,
I have a problem with an Imation Apollo external drive 500GB.
It simply doesn't work anymore, while just two days ago everything was fine.

When I plug it into the PC, the blue light turns on and I hear some beeping sounds coming from the drive. Then the light starts to blink in bursts of three.

The drive no longer appears on the PC, nor even in Disk Management; and there isn't even an icon to safely remove it.

I have 450 GB of data on it, so I'm really worried, especially since I'm abroad for 3 months... so no customer service possible...

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.5.7

    Hello again.

    Problem solved.

As advised, I removed the soft rubber 'shell' that surrounds the external drive. I checked that everything was properly connected inside, and it was.
When I reconnected it 'without the shell', it started beeping again, so I gave it a tap on the side while it was beeping (something I had done several times with the shell without any result), and then I heard the drive start to spin. Everything fell into place on its own.

Thank you for your quick responses, you saved me three months of struggles without movies or music!!!

      Hello,

I had exactly the same problem with the same hardware.
I didn't remove the silicone cover but tapped on the edge during the startup "beeps". And it works again. Surprising.
Thank you for sharing your problem and for the feedback, it helped me a lot.

Mine just doesn't work anymore. All my saved data to lighten my other disks is lost. I didn't even have time to say "whew"!

    Hello,

Try to open your hard drive case and check that it is properly seated in the case, as it can sometimes come loose over time! Here's another little commercial tip? ... ^^

So make sure to press down on it to ensure it's properly connected

Best regards, looking forward to hearing from you

If the problem only affects the rack, you can work around it by placing the hard drive internally.

If the problem actually affects the hard drive... sigh! Rest in peace to its sectors.

Because the manuals don't tell you everything... But they don't tell you nothing either, right!
