My external hard drive won't turn on. What should I do?

It is a 650 MB Western Digital, purchased 18 months ago. Plugged in and connected to the USB port, it no longer turns on.

It may simply be broken. To check, you need to try it on another computer. But before that, you should test the USB port it is usually plugged into with another device to see if that port is still working. If it works, you can safely try your hard drive on another computer. If it doesn’t work anymore, it means your hard drive has damaged your USB port. So, it could be dangerous to try it on another computer. You risk damaging the USB port of the second computer. This test is therefore very important.
