Hello,
My external hard drive died without warning on Sunday night.
I can no longer access anything, it’s not even recognized, and it has become very noisy.
I tried it on my work computer, same result:
the computer does not detect the connection of this device.
I opened it up (a LaCie, 250 GB, bought just over a year ago from a supermarket), and I found myself face to face with a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8.
I plugged it directly into the computer, making sure it had its slave jumper.
Nothing happened, it’s not recognized by the BIOS.
How can I recover the 150 GB of data on it? (I have barely 20% backed up on other media (CD, another HDD…))
Should I find a Seagate and swap the electronics from the new drive with the old one (risking burning some components with overheated soldering)?
Are there shops that offer data recovery services?
In short, how can I get out of this?

Good evening,
I have a 300 GB Seagate external hard drive that just failed on me. I tried to get it working by buying a new enclosure, but it's not recognized by my PC. I tested it with another identical Seagate, and that one was recognized on the first connection. I assume hope is slim, but is there a way to recover my data (290 GB) without having to spend a fortune? Thank you in advance for your advice and responses...
