<WINDOWS ROOT>\SYSTEM32\HAL.DLL is missing or corrupt. Please reinstall this file.
At startup, this is what it shows me in black and white. Safe mode doesn't work either.
This all happened after a change in Startup and Recovery: partition.......(2) to (1). And then, boom, disaster.
I don't have an XP CD to reinstall. I've used a boot disk and I have A:>. I don't know what to do to go into System Startup and Recovery to restore the original data?
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!
I have a second PC with XP Pro but no burner, just a CD-ROM and floppy drive.
No warranty left.

I have the same problem, the trouble is that I only have access to the back, I tried the recovery console but I can only get to the Windows XP logo and not to the welcome screen, which means that even pressing R, the PC just starts its cycle again. Help me or I will throw the PC out the window.

I resolved this problem by restoring the boot.ini file, a system file that can be made visible in Tools, Folder Options, then View. The file is usually located on C:\.

HALL.DLL missing or corrupted
If you receive an error indicating that the hall.dll file is missing or corrupted, it may be due to a misconfiguration of BOOT.INI located on C:\

-Insert the Windows XP CD into your CD-ROM drive and then start your computer
-When you encounter the first option R=Repair, press the R key
-Enter the number corresponding to the installation you want to repair
-Type bootcfg /list to list the current entries in BOOT.INI
-Type bootcfg /rebuild to repair it
-Remove the CD-ROM and then type EXIT

Hello,
my antivirus has detected a dangerous file C:\WINDOW\SYSTEM32\USER32.DLL
would it be possible to repair it without using an installation CD?

Well, hello everyone... For those who have issues with DLL, just insert the Windows XP installation disk and restart the computer... Then keep holding R. The CD will start, just follow the on-screen steps, select R = Repair, then type 1 and hit enter, then if all goes well it will ask for a password, just type "enter", haha, hit enter and there you go, type "bootcfg /rebuild"
You wait and then hit enter, then Exit
you remove the CD and restart, AND THAT'S IT!! =D

Good evening, everyone: I'm having the same problem with hal.dll, as I have 2 operating systems: XP Pro and XP. I carefully reviewed the various proposed solutions, but unfortunately, there were no results. Since by pressing F8 I could access XP on my C: drive, where I have both systems, I went into XP Pro: WINDOWS. SYSTEM32, and indeed I was missing this file. I downloaded the file to a USB stick, and I copied/pasted it into SYSTEM32 from XP Pro; after rebooting, it worked perfectly. I admit that it wasn't very complicated for me since I have both systems on the same drive. That said, if this can help someone, my skills stop there; I also struggle like everyone else.

Thanks yakhousam for the solution  It worked perfectly^^ I just had to do /chkdsk (it advised me to do so after the command /bootcfg /list) Then, as you said: bootcfg /rebuild  I typed exit, and there you go, that was it.  P.S: This was my first message on this forum that I haven't checked in a long time. So I want to thank everyone for the wonderful advice and opinions circulating on CommentCaMarche.net

Hello, excuse me, I have the same problem since I defragmented my PC (Windows XP Home Edition). I am currently in front of my screen and the message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

Please reinstall a copy of the above file.
So I started a system recovery, but nothing works...
I have the system: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 HP.
I press "F8 safe mode" but no operations change anything. I do not have a system recovery CD... :(
