LG external DVD burner not detected

Hello,

I just bought an LG GP08 Lite external DVD burner for my laptop, but when I plug in the double USB into the PC, it is not detected.
The burner is powered by the PC, and I even inserted the installation CD that came with it; the disk is spinning, but still nothing shows up on the PC!

I don't know much about this, could someone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello,
I installed an external LG GP08 Lite DVD burner, I see that it has been recognized in My Computer, but I have a problem with the CD. When I put it in this drive, it seems to not align properly, I don't understand and also the manual is in English, I don't get anything, could you send me a manual in French!!!!
Thank you

Hello,

I have the same issue as you all with the LG GP08 reader. I notice that you haven't received any response, no help. Is this product really that bad?

Please let me know if anyone has a solution.

Good evening everyone,

Same issue, NOT recognizing my LG Portable Super Multi Drive GP08 Lite.

I simply changed the USB cable!! It works perfectly now...

Have a nice evening,

Thank you MilsD; I took the USB cable from my Canon camera that I had on hand and the GP08 that was refusing to be recognized and wouldn’t accept any discs is reading them now. GREAT.

Hello,
to contact me with the USB key, I have to connect to a port at the back of the PC, because the connection at the front doesn't work, and this way I can get the connection. I go to "My Computer," and I see that my USB key is recognized.....
Try always if you understood, this is the only info I can give you.
See you and don't lose hope.

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem with a LG GP08NU40 and I'm on Windows 7/x64/Ultimate on a Vaio series Z. The drive is detected but it often takes several minutes before it can read a CD/DVD that is inserted. And that's when it works because most of the time, the disc is never detected. Sometimes (rarely) I get a message saying there was a problem with a device (in which case the drive is not detected) and I once had a Windows crash.
I read on forums that there could be a power issue (insufficient through the USB ports) so I added a USB hub with external power, which didn’t change anything.
On the LG website, there are no driver or firmware updates for my model.
What a crap!
