Good evening,

First of all, I haven't done any research, I'm in a huge rush. If the question seems basic, I apologize for the repetition.

My father is looking for a remote control cover for his mother. You can imagine what an elderly person can do with a remote control: they accidentally press a button (new TV, digital terrestrial television) and it’s chaos... He would like to adjust a cover (possibly for sale) that only allows access to certain buttons (channel switching).

Do you know if that exists? The TV is a Toshiba brand, purchased 10 days ago, 82 cm LCD (we'll check the exact reference tomorrow depending on your answer).

Thank you in advance. Tomorrow it will be calmer to talk peacefully.

Have a good evening!

One should not adapt a remote control, but buy a remote specially made to limit the number of buttons: there will only be the following buttons: on/off, channel up/down, volume up/down, and mute. Do a GOOGLE search for "remote control for elderly" to find what you need. The original remote goes straight into a drawer or under the TV to make adjustments if necessary...

Hello
take a look in a good store, a while ago there were what I call "zapettes", only five buttons
- volume up/down
- channel up/down
- standby, that's right
for my case it was for a small "community", at first it would disappear or the memories of the channels would go haywire, it's no better than grandma who doesn't have her glasses on!
if you can't find it, ask Wallis Universal (if they're French) they have an online catalog www.sosremotes.com and especially a phone number 04 74 61 10 88, they're super nice and have already helped me out of some serious problems and made me a custom remote for an external multimedia hard drive whose original remote was worth nothing.
cheers and happy hunting
PS: and if you store the original remote, don't forget to remove the batteries because after a while the batteries leak and it's a disaster!

Hi,

I did some research and it seems that what we're looking for is not offered anywhere..
Can you confirm this for me, please?

If that's the case, maybe the fallback solution would be an ultra-simple universal remote?

Thank you.

Better late than never :)

Since this Christmas, my grandmother hasn't done anything irreparable, great performance! So we've kind of forgotten about the issue, but we will follow your advice, a solution we initially thought of. A remote control like the one you described, with 1 or 2 fully programmable buttons, would be perfect. We'll look for that.

Thank you for your responses, it’s nice ;)
Bye.
