Text that erases itself as you type

Hello,
I can’t remember which keys I need to press when I’m typing a text and I go back to a word, it gets erased gradually (the following letter gets deleted), could you please tell me how to do that?

    "Insert" key. To locate it, it depends on the keyboards; on mine, it's to the right above "Del"...
