GAG: booting from USB drive

Hello,
I have an old laptop without a CD or floppy drive, which doesn't have an option in the BIOS to boot from a USB drive.
I installed GAG (Graphical Boot Loader) which is supposed to be able to do that, but it also refuses to boot from the USB drive. When I try to "add a new OS", it shows me "floppy", the Linux partition, and a last thing titled "82h". However, only Linux boots, as the floppy and the 82h display "infected boot sector".

Yes, yes, the USB drive is definitely plugged in ;P
And it boots normally on another PC. It's slitaz, it runs fine. But on this old mini-PC, I can't find a way.

What could I tinker with to either make GAG recognize the USB drive and accept to boot from it, or to boot from the USB drive by tinkering with something? I understood that it might be possible with the new version of GRUB, but since it is still quite unstable, I don't want to try it out. Not that I have much to lose since there is no important data on this computer, but I’m not yet skilled enough to recover a GRUB failure without a CD or floppy drive or USB…

"82h displays "infected boot sector"". "

Hello ;-)

82h = Swap, that's normal ;-)

To see the other disks (drives) do you press the numbers on the screen of the partitions to switch disks?

I also thought it was the swap without being sure, since I wasn't the one who did the first install ;)

For a moment, I thought I understood the solution with your response, but no, it doesn't work any better.
I press "j", so there's the list mentioned above, and by selecting a, b, or c, I make an entry.

I hadn't thought to check the other "hard drives" by pressing the numbers. I just tested. On the 7 others, there’s no other choice but the floppy disk; I still made an entry on "hard disk 2", "floppy", but the same "infected boot sector".
Apparently, it doesn't want to boot from usb, but I don't understand why going through GAG.

GAG will unfortunately only launch what the BIOS version allows it to launch ;-)

Alright, so it's a lost cause... Thanks anyway.

Is there a way to update the BIOS? I'm not really sure if my computer will accept it; it dates back to 2000 after all... but it would really help me to be able to use USB. Especially since it has the port, it's not like it's something that’s 20 years old.

Re,

you need to check the manufacturer's website, but it is not highly recommended.
