Windows 7 Brightness Adjustment Issue

Honestly, they are really stupid at Microsoft for not including that simple option that was in previous versions of Windows, what a joke! Thanks for the info.

Salut, pour répondre à ton message, cela ne se produit pas que sous Windows Seven, j'ai Vista avec un Acer Aspire 6935 et une carte graphique 9600m GT. J'ai mis à jour, je pense, tous les drivers depuis tout le site "tous les drivers.com" que j'ai trouvé en guise de solution sur ce forum depuis que j'ai le problème hier soir, voilà, et c'est toujours pas réglé pour moi non plus !!!

I managed to adjust the brightness without the fn key. That solves half the problem.
So there you go, I did two manipulations and when I restarted my PC, the brightness was back with the ability to adjust it using a slider:
So I don't know which manipulation was the savior.
I should specify that my graphics driver was from 2006 while I had tried to update it and a message informed me that no update was available...

1/ I went to touslesdrivers.com, section "My drivers". I downloaded and installed the utility offered. Going back to the site, I clicked on "start detection". I waited, and the list of hardware present on my PC appeared. As I had seen on the forums that the issue with the fn key might be due to a video driver update, I stupidly downloaded the first of the two drivers offered. Here is its description:

I installed it.

As I was browsing the internet during the installation, I attempted a second manipulation:

2/ My PC was in power-saving mode even though I was always plugged into the main power and never using the battery, so I decided to check "high performance" in control panel / Hardware and Sound / Power Options.

I restarted the PC, and there, my life changed, I recovered my sight.

The screen was clear and bright. By going to Power Options, at the very bottom of the window, in the center, a slider titled "Screen brightness" appeared. The fn key still doesn't work better, but the brightness is now adjustable.

I have eye pain, I can no longer lower the brightness of my computer with the fn+arrow key... it doesn't work anymore!! And even in the settings, the brightness adjustment doesn't exist anymore???? I'm trying to look for updates, the computer tells me that the updates are done and that there is no problem! I'm trying to download the NVIDIA driver, it tells me that this version is not compatible with my computer and advises me to contact the manufacturer!!!! I upgraded my Windows 7, IT DOESN'T WORK!!! Hi ToOmA, I'm also on Vista, not Windows 7, and the only solution I found is either to flash the BIOS of your motherboard and update the drivers or to reinstall the drivers for your graphics card. For me, mine is a GForce 9600M GT from NVIDIA. You can reinstall the preconfigured drivers in Vista that came with your laptop when you did your Vista backup by burning DVDs of Vista. Then you format your PC and reinstall Vista. That's what I did. I couldn't figure out how to flash the BIOS and update the drivers, so I formatted. But when I formatted, I thought maybe it wasn't necessary to format, just to reinstall the drivers of your card. If you can, of course. After that, I think it's best because you have an Acer, and I believe yours is older and different from mine. You go to
"Empowering technology"
"Acer eRecovery Management"
tab "restore"
then click on the "Reinstall applications/drivers" tab
"allow"
tab "contents"
and there you scroll down until you find, hoping it's the same driver as mine:
"nVidia VGA Chip NB 9PGSHMM/9PGSHM". There you go, hoping this helps you with the same problem I had. If it doesn’t work, you’ll have to format again and start the steps from:

Following up on my previous message: when updating the graphics card drivers to the latest version "195.62_notebook_winvista_win7_32bit_international_whql" and the previous version "186.81_notebook_win7_winvista_32bit_international_whql," both taken from the website www.nvidia.fr/page/drivers.html
the latest driver, which is the first one you read, during its installation Nvidia told me that the driver could only be installed on the 32-bit version of Vista or Seven. The irony is that I run on 32-bit Vista and the installation could not be completed lol!!! Thank you Nvidia. As for the previous version of the drivers, the second one I mentioned informed me during installation that Nvidia could not proceed with the installation because the driver was not compatible with my card lol. I then looked into the device manager for the graphics card. Surprise! My card, which was initially a Gforce 9600M GT in PCI Express, is now called a poor and miserable "Standard VGA Graphics Card." So basically, if you have this kind of problem, do not try to update your card drivers that you checked beforehand on the Nvidia site, and revert to the pre-configured drivers that were originally installed when you first set up your laptop when you bought it. Wait for Nvidia to release even better and more updated drivers than the current latest one for your graphics card. I had faith in Nvidia until today regarding their product quality, and that has not changed for the moment, but in terms of their product software, you have really lowered my esteem! No, it's not my colleague who found it, it's me ^^ and that's why you can't upgrade because you have W7 64bit instead of 32bit and there’s nothing you can do except install W7 32Bit.
