Bonjour,
here I would like to change my processor but I currently have a Gigabyte motherboard "GA M61P-s3"
so I would like to install this processor...:
http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/Processeurs/AMD-Phenom-II/AMD/2865923-Phenom-II-X4-965-Black-Edition-version-overclockable-3-4-Ghz-HDZ965FBGIBOX.htm
on another forum someone told me that my motherboard would not support N/A as technical specifications.
my question is therefore what does N/A correspond to?
does my motherboard support the quad-core processor type mentioned above?
thank you for guiding me...

According to my research on the manufacturer's site, your motherboard is not compatible
Supports AMD Phenom X3/ Athlon X2 processors*
but on the manufacturer's site, in the list of CPUs, they have N/A for the processor you want to install, and generally, it is not possible

Oh My God !! -
Is this processor Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz - bus 4000 MT/s - Socket AM3 - 4 cores - 45 nm manufacturing - 512KB of L2 cache and 6MB of L3 - power consumption 145 watts. I'm sorry for you but your motherboard cannot support this processor. You will have to wait for Gigabyte to work on new BIOS and maybe you will get lucky. "N/A" means not supported.

just a question is it a branded PC???
if yes forget it you will be limited

Hello yoanf26
and thanks for your response..
No no, I assembled the motherboard myself, Gigabyte GA M61P-S3 bi-processor 4000+ AMD
overclocked to 2400mhz (instead of the default 2100...) RAM speed 800 mhz with 2 sticks of 2 GB each
thanks for following...

Just to clarify, "N/A" means "Not applicable".
This can help to understand.

Configuration: Linux Debian Lenny / Kernel 2.6.26 / Gnome / Iceweasel 3
Internet connection: ADSL Orange 8M (Livebox) -
Hello,
yes, in principle, N/A does mean Not Applicable
but Albator74 is right, on the Gigabyte website for this motherboard, it is indeed indicated that N/A = Not Supported:
https://www.gigabyte.com/tw
so you cannot install this CPU, sorry :( -
Well, the Phenom X2 64 550 (marked BIOS F7F...)
http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/Processeurs/AMD-Phenom-II/AMD/2859768-Phenom-II-X2-550-Black-Edition-ventilateur-inclus-3-1-Ghz-45nm-AM3-HDZ550WFGIBOX.htm
that seems to be good, right? -
Yes, it's the only Phenom II supported, but not the X4 965, which was your initial question ;)
-
With 6 MB of L3 cache, it seems pretty good, but I'm not too sure what that means...
For just 15 euros more than the 6000+, it seems interesting....
I think the cache helps reduce the load on the processors, making calculations faster, right?
And plus, it's unlocked for overclocking...

So that's for the 6000+. -
The Phenom II X2 550 is a good choice for a dual-core processor,
it is particularly much better than your current CPU ;)
forget the Athlon X2 6000+, it is outclassed by the Phenom II X2 550, check out these benchmarks:

Yes, the applications I use are somewhat similar to PC games, in fact, because I use a lot of virtual synths.
-
Okay, I hope I was able to help you with your choice, see you later.
-
I'm always listening, I'll come back in a bit, okay?
If you have any information about the groceries, let me know, okay?
Thanks again
See you later

Oh really, you want power supplies now, for which configuration please?
We don't know your graphics card, and they consume a lot, those beasts... -
Based on your graphics card, we can say that a power supply of 400 to 500W is sufficient for a configuration with Phenom II X2.
To simplify, if you have a GPU with a single PCI-E connector, you can opt for a 400W power supply, like the Corsair CX400W for €43.
If you have a GPU with 2 PCI-E connectors (HD 4870, GTX 260, ...), it’s better to take a 500W power supply, like the SilverPower 500W for €60, based on a Seasonic, or the Antec Earthwatt 500W for €63. -
normally, the HD 4850 only has a 6-pin connector, but if you want a 500W, no problem!

Re...
Yes, my bad, I made a mistake. So if you look, there's an error in their description here:
http://www.rueducommerce.fr/Composants/Cartes-Graphiques/Cartes-Graphiques-ATI/SAPPHIRE/438918-Carte-Graphique-Radeon-HD-4870-1024-Mo-GDDR5-PCI-Express-2-0.htm
and actually, it's not the 4850 but the 4870 in GDDR5.
Sorry for the mistake, but right now I'm so overwhelmed with all this hardware...
Plus, it went up by 10 or 15 euros in just two days....
Given its consumption, I'm not sure if I need to change my power supply, you know?
Thanks for following up...
Ced...
P.S.: I forgot to tell you to check the reviews for the error in the product description... -
However, my motherboard only supports PCI-Express 1, not 2.0. I hope this won't cause any problems with connecting the graphics card?
Thank you for following up...
Ced...
http://www.gigabyte.fr/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2434&ProductName=GA-M61P-S3
So I have seen that apparently there is no problem between PCI-Express in 16x and PCI-Express 2.0
