Hello,

So, I have a laptop connected to Wi-Fi (Windows XP), I am with Orange with a Sagem Livebox, and I’d like to know if, to connect at a friend’s house who doesn’t have a PC anymore, if by taking his Thomson mini Livebox (since it’s still plugged in for his unlimited phone), can I easily connect to the Internet at his place? Should I simply in the Livebox settings enter his Livebox WAP key instead of mine, or do I need to do other steps???

Also, another question: if I connect my PC to his Livebox with an Ethernet cable, will it work without any other steps???

If Wi‑Fi doesn’t work, do I need to uninstall my Livebox and install theirs (Thomson) with their CD installation, and when I go back home uninstall theirs and reinstall mine (Sagem)???

Thanks in advance if anyone can answer my questions!

Best regards,
Papillon26.

Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.5.3

    Hello
    We'll start with the simplest

THE ORANGE CD IS USELESS, IT'S SHIT

    Next
For the wifi, since the Orange manager takes precedence over Windows' wifi manager, I don't know if you'll see its wifi.
For details, I don't use the Orange manager, versions change every 6 months, the software is buggy.

Next, yes you can plug in Ethernet directly to the Livebox, no settings to do

    Last question
    If wifi doesn't work
    uninstall the Orange software
use Windows' wifi network manager, identify the network you're interested in, enter the key (name and key available under the Livebox).
When you return home, same thing, find the network and enter the key, that's it...
if you check the option remember the network, whether you go home or to a friend's, it will reconnect to the network by itself.

ok thanks for your info I’ll try to see that then if I don’t succeed, I’ll plug in the Ethernet cable! if I first try with wifi and I changed the WAP key, do I have to put my own back afterward or keep theirs if I finally connect by ethernet???? or does it not matter since the PC connected by cable will inevitably go through their Live Box???
    thanks in advance

It doesn’t matter which Wi‑Fi key you use as long as you’re connected by Ethernet ;)

Normally when you are at his place you open your WIFI connection, you choose the Livebox, it will ask you for the WAP key, you enter it and save it to avoid entering it each time, then you will be connected to the Internet.
