Hello, for some time now, I've been having a sound problem with my TV. Indeed, a very unpleasant crackling noise can be heard from the speakers when the volume is set to a moderately high level (neither too low nor too loud). It appeared inexplicably; the TV has not suffered any shock or anything before this noise started.
This is particularly noticeable when I'm playing on the Xbox 360, for example, in games like Forza 2 (the car engine noise/gear shifting "vroom" or in FIFA 10 the stadium ambiance (crowd noise, chants, excited commentary, etc...), but it can happen anytime (movies, music, videos...). Lowering the volume slightly reduces the crackling, while increasing it worsens the situation.

Do you have any idea where the problem might come from and if there are solutions to fix it?
Thank you for your help :)

    So:

For my part, I know I used the Expert sound mode (I had a KDL-26S2020 and a KDL-32P2530).
As for the balance, though, I’m not sure what it was set to... It feels strange to see it at zero...

    Everything else seems fine.

What about the settings on your 360? Not having the console, I don’t know it in terms of adjustments. Have you tried modifying the settings (audio-wise, of course) to see if the issue persists?

The sound issue you described happens to me with a PS2 on a Philips TV... But it would go away as soon as I fiddled with the audio plugs (even though that particular Philips TV was pretty lousy to begin with)...

    Hello there.

Make sure all your devices are properly connected and that the plugs are well inserted into their inputs and outputs. Sometimes it’s just a simple cable that isn’t properly plugged in or has come loose…

If not, check the "sound" settings on your TV and your console (and other connected devices).

Also, consult the manual of your TV and look at the section with potential problems and the solutions that are explained there. They’ve already helped me a lot with other devices…

If the problem persists, contact the customer service of the store where you bought it and see what they can do for you (repairs, tests, exchanges…). On that side, you may have to push a bit to get them to act…
Of course, customer service is only relevant if the TV is still under warranty (which seems to be the case since you just got the TV).

Otherwise, a defective model happens, no brand is immune to that…

I hope I was able to help you.

Hi, thank you for your help:
So: I checked that all the devices were properly connected and that the plugs were well inserted into their inputs and outputs.
In the TV sound settings I have:

    Sound mode: -Expert
    -Dynamic
    -Standard

Treble: adjustable from -12 to +12, I set it to +6

Bass: adjustable from -12 to +12, I set it to +6

Balance: I left it at 0

    Auto Volume: No

Surround: No or S-Force Front Surround (I set it to S-Force)

Sound enhancement: No (also options for Up and Down)

    Bilingual sound: Stereo

The manual does not mention this issue in troubleshooting. The model is probably not defective, I’ve had it for over a year and this just started happening. Thank you :)

The audio settings I described to you are valid for all TV inputs (fbxhd, Xbox 360, Wii...).
Otherwise, regarding the audio parameters, I lowered the treble and bass from +10 to +6 and slightly decreased the overall volume (from 35 to 28 for the 360), which indeed reduced the interference, but below that, the sound quality is no longer the same. Previously, they were at +10 with a volume of 35 and there were no interferences. The Xbox 360 is on HDMI 4; switching it to HDMI 5 does not change anything regarding the interference. I even changed the HDMI cable. As for the balance, how much do you recommend I set it to?

PS: No audio jack; everything goes through HDMI.

Oh okay, it's a good thing to have everything hooked up via HDMI. One question I'm wondering about is whether having multiple devices on standby/on could cause interference between them in your opinion? Because since HDMI transmits both sound and images, it would always be good to know if having several devices connected this way might cause issues with the TV... Normally it shouldn't, but still... I imagine when you’re using your Wii, the 360 is completely turned off, right?

For the balance, try setting it to the middle to see what result you get...

I don't think there can be any interference if the connected devices are turned off, however, now that you mention it, it's true that my fbxd doesn't turn off but goes into standby. I'll see if I still have the fbxhd problem when it's completely turned off.

Hello, I just saw this post that caught my attention because I also have a sound problem on my Sony Bravia TV. But it’s not really a crackling, more of a resonance of certain sounds, especially voices and music. It’s not even a year old and it started like this a month ago; it doesn't happen all the time, but more and more frequently. I thought about getting a home theater system, but I don't know if the problem comes from the speakers or the sound signal, which means a home theater system wouldn’t solve anything, on the contrary!
    Does anyone have any advice?

I was also interested in the topic, and it's true that disconnecting the Blu-ray player makes less noise...
