AVR 1909 HDMI sound issue with TV.

Hello,
I have a DENON AVR 1909 amplifier.
I can't get the sound from the TV (LCD SONY BRAVIA connected via HDMI) to come through my speakers.
It works perfectly with the tuner and the DVD player (which is not connected via HDMI).
I've spent several hours with the manual... without success.
With the current settings:
When I turn on the TV and then the amplifier: the TV displays "audio system activated," the sound from the TV is muted, but I have no sound through the speakers connected to the amplifier.
When I turn on the amplifier first and then the TV: the TV displays "HP TV activated," and I have sound through the TV.
Can someone tell me where the problem is? It might be something very simple, but I'm going in circles and I can't figure it out.
