URLs links in Thunderbird aren't opening

Solved

After a series of various reinstallations, when I receive an email in Thunderbird containing a link, clicking on the link no longer opens it in Firefox (Thunderbird and Firefox are my default links)
I must be missing a key in the registry HKEY_CLASSES but which one and where to find it
(not found on the Thunderbird site)
Configuration: XP pack 2

I had a problem with sending a link to... actually, if we have installed the latest version of Thunderbird, you just need to check in Tools Options to verify the default messaging and check the RSS sending box.

When I receive a message in Thunderbird that contains a link, clicking on the link no longer opens the webpage in Firefox
(Thunderbird and Firefox are my default links)
how can I reactivate the link?
if I uninstall and then reinstall Thunderbird, will I keep my email accounts?

In searching the registry, I found in a Mozilla registry a key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\client\mail with the value Outlook, which I changed to Mozilla Thunderbird, and there, miracles happened: the links were reactivated!

... and if "browser.link" does not appear, what should I do? (that's my case)

Hi Balary: Did you get a response? I'm in the same situation as you, and I don't have the browser.link either. How did you manage to get out of it? Thank you very much.

In About:Config right-click, you have New -> String -> Enter the name of the option and there you put browser.link with the value 0, but I'm not sure it works....
Good luck

For me, I had to change the parameter network.protocol-handler.warn-external.http to true (in about:config). And it works again!

The Firefox

Hi Chris!

So, in case you haven't found the solution to configure Thunderbird to open links in Firefox on Win XP, here's how to do it:
1. Go to this URL to download the "about:config" extension if you haven't done so:
http://extensions.geckozone.org/Thunderbird/
Install it properly... :-)

2. Once Thunderbird is restarted, go to Tools > about:config.

3. With about:config open, type "browser.link" in the Filter at the top.

4. The first line that should now appear on the screen is:
browser.link.open_external.

5. If that's the case, change the value (which should be 1 by default) to 0 by double-clicking on it.

6. And there you go!!! That's it!!! Now your links should open with Firefox!!!

In any case, it works for me! Good luck!

I added on to your response from 2005!!!
Indeed, I have the same issue and when I go to "about config" and type "browser.link" in the filter, nothing happens! Can you tell me what the problem is?
Thank you

this method is no longer good, but you just need to go to My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types
choose URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
"modify" button
"browse" button and select the path leading to firefox in the browser

just validate and done!

I have the browser.link.open_external set to 3 by default on the latest Firefox update 2.0.0.7 and I'm having the same problem; the http links in emails received through Thunderbird 2.00.6 do not open! The proposed solution doesn't work... Is there not a parameter in the registry that needs to be changed? If anyone has a solution... Also, the VideoDownloadder111 add-on for Firefox is no longer operational... both issues appeared together.

you need to manually tinker with the prefs.js file of Thunderbird

No fosca, the link you provided is for Unix... we're talking about XP here...

Thanks anyway.
